Each professional baseball player has a unique journey to explain their path to the minor leagues. For First Lieutenant Cole White, his path took him through the U.S. Military Academy.
Following the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, White decided as a high school junior that he was going to serve his country after graduation. With an appointment to West Point in hand, White cemented his name in the Black Knights’ record book and was eventually drafted by the Pirates in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.
After serving two years at three different military bases as part of the U.S. Department of Defense Alternative Service Option, White is back on the diamond and making a splash with the Bradenton Marauders.

I interviewed Cole White back a few years ago for Gotham Baseball. A very impressive individual as well as a very impressive baseball player. Was All Patriot League at four different positions over his career (Pitcher, first base, right field and designated hitter) as well spending time at second base for the Cadets.Â
He was adversely impacted by the Army changing the rules on athletes turning pro back when Caleb Campbell was trying out for the Detroit Lions, so I am glad to see that he is being given the chance once again. Â
