Eric Erickson is looking to return to the Miami (FL) pitching staff for the 2012 season according to CBD sources. He had an outstanding freshman season in 2007 going 10-4 with a 2.50 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 90 innings. He picked up several national awards including being named a Freshman All-American by Baseball America and Louisville Slugger.

Erickson also had a strong sophomore season with the Hurricanes going 9-1 with a 4.15 ERA. He suffered an injury in the fall of 2008 which forced him to miss the 2009 season with “Tommy John” surgery. He returned in 2010 for his junior season in which he went 4-1 with a 2.52 ERA in 11 appearances (10 starts). He ended up being shutdown for a second time at the end of the 2010 season as he had to have “Tommy John” surgery a second time.

Erickson sat out last season and has applied to the NCAA for a waiver for a sixth year of eligibility during 2012. He is expected to have an answer from the NCAA in the very near future. If he was to return, it would bolster a very strong Canes pitching staff for next season.
