The MLB Signing Deadline is fast approaching as all teams have until midnight on August 15th to sign their prospects or they will head to college. Here is the latest news and notes from around the country.

Bubba Starling’s career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the football field is on hold right now according to Huskers head football coach Bo Pelini in the Omaha-World Herald. Starling was selected by Kansas City Royals with the fifth overall pick and is being advised by Scott Boras. If he does not sign with the Royals, Starling will get back on the practice field with the Nebraska football program and will not be able to sign with a MLB team until the 2014 MLB Draft.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson stated to ESPNNewYork.com writer Adam Rubin that it wasn’t a big deal that the Arkansas signee and Mets number 1 pick Brandon Nimmo hasn’t signed with the team.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed fifth round pick Tyler Glasnow and 37th rounder Rodarrick Jones according to MLB.com. Glasnow is projectable 6’7 pitcher out of Hart HS and Santa Clarita, California. He was expected to be a key part of the Portland recruiting class for the 2012 season. Southern University’s Rodarrick Jones never actually stepped on the field as he was ruled ineligible for the Jaguars for the 2011 season as he transferred from New Orleans. Current Southern University coach Roger Cador stated the following about Rodarick signing “We would’ve loved to have him next year, but it is what it is. We move forward, We’re happy for Rodarrick.”
