Orleans Firebirds 7 Brewster Whitecaps 7

The Orleans Firebirds and Brewster Whitecaps tied at 7 after nine innings due to the fact that Brewster does not have lights at their field. Stony Brook’s Maxx Tissenbaum led the Firebirds attack by going 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Former Miami Assistant Joe Mercadante joins UCF Coaching Staff

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – UCF head baseball coach Terry Rooney announced Friday that former Miami assistant coach Joe Mercadante will join his coaching staff as the Knights’ hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.

“I am pleased to announce Joe Mercadante as our new assistant coach,” Rooney said. “Joe has a proven track record for developing hitters and catchers at the highest level of college baseball, along with an outstanding reputation as a relentless recruiter. Collegiate National Team crushes 18U National Team 12-1

DURHAM, N.C. – In the first-ever USA Baseball Prospect Classic, which pitted the Collegiate National Team against the 18U National Trials team, CNT came out ahead taking game one of the two-game series 12-1 Friday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Complex.

Brian Johnson stole the show in his first game with CNT going 2-for-2 with three RBI and three walks at the plate. The 2010 CNT alum also tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief recording a pair of strikeouts. Read the rest of this entry »

Here is your Cape Cod Baseball League Recap for July 1st.

Falmouth Commodores 4 Brewster Whitecaps 0

Falmouth and Bradley RHP Joe Bircher continued his dominance in the Cape Cod Baseball League on Friday evening pitching seven shutout innings giving up three hits and a walk while striking out six batters. Brewster’s Tony Bucciferro (Michigan State) was up for the challenge though as he also pitching seven shutout innings giving up only one hit and striking out five batters. The game came down to the bullpens as Commodores reliever Taylor Sandefur (Western Carolina) picked up the win by pitching a scoreless eighth while Josh Easley (NC State) picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning. Max Garner (Baylor) got the loss by giving up four runs (one earned) in his two innings of work. Kansas State’s Jared King led the offense for Falmouth with two RBI on the day. Akron hires Rick Rembielak Head Coach

USA Collegiate National Team hammers Gastonia, 12-5

GASTONIA, N.C. – Michael Lorenzen (Cal State Fullerton) homered and drove in four to lead the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team to a 12-5 win over Gastonia Thursday night at Sims Legion Park.

Every player in the lineup – nine total — recorded at least one hit in the team’s win as the club tallied 15 overall and improved to 6-1 this summer. Thursday’s game marked the finale for Team USA against summer collegiate clubs with the two-game Prospect Classic against the 18U National Team scheduled to get underway Friday. Dan O’Brien named Head Coach at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. –A two-time Division II National Coach of the Year, Santa Clara University announced Thurs., June 30 it has hired Dan O’Brien as the new Bronco head baseball coach. O’Brien has spent the last 14 seasons as the head coach at UC San Diego, building that program into one of the premier programs at the NCAA Division II level. Dan O’Brien, the 36th head coach in school history in a baseball program that dates back to 1883, replaces Mark O’Brien after he stepped down in early June after 10 years at the Bronco helm.
