FROM CBD NEWS SOURCE
BATON ROUGE, La. – Shortstop Austin Nola announced Friday that he will return to LSU for his senior year with the baseball squad. Nola, the 31st round selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in last month’s MLB Draft, said he will put his pro career on hold until after the Tigers’ 2012 season.

“I think they were messed up in their drafting,” Marder joked before turning serious. “It’s one of those things they think potentially I could be a good catcher. As devastating as (the college season) was for me, I guess a few teams thought it was a fluke I didn’t have a good year.”

The umpires get $3,750 for the year which comes out to $43.94 per game which is actually below the rate that high school umpires receive. The idea is that these umpires will use the experience umpiring in one of the top summer leagues in the country to eventually be asked to join the minor leagues the next season as a member of an umpire crew.  Read the rest of this entry »
