Clay Greene added to Memphis Coaching Staff

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis head baseball coach Daron Schoenrock announced Friday that former East Tennessee State coach Clay Greene will join his coaching staff as the Tigers’ hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.
“I can’t begin to express my excitement to bring Clay Greene to the University of Memphis,” Schoenrock said. “I have known Coach Greene since his playing days at Cleveland State Community College and have thoroughly enjoyed following his playing and coaching career. Ryan Klosterman Joins UCF Baseball Coaching Staff

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – UCF head coach Terry Rooney announced Friday that central Florida native Ryan Klosterman will join the UCF baseball coaching staff for the 2011-12 season. Klosterman will be in charge of the Knights’ infielders and team defense and will also assist with offense and recruiting.
“I am extremely excited to have Ryan Klosterman join our staff at UCF. His background is not only a huge asset for our program, but has prepared him to become an outstanding coach,” Rooney said. “He has experienced playing at the highest level of college baseball, along with the last eight years in professional baseball. UT Arlington will move to Western Athletic Conference in 2012

ARLINGTON, TX – The University of Texas at Arlington announced today that it has accepted an invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference, a move that will elevate the University’s competitive sports programs and increase its national profile.
UT Arlington becomes the 10th member of the WAC for the 2012-2013 academic year, joining Louisiana Tech University, New Mexico State University and Utah State University, among other institutions. UT Arlington is the third Texas institution to move to the WAC for the 2012-2013 season, along with The University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas State University.

San Francisco’s Nino Giarratano Gives His Father The Ultimate Gift

DENVER — Some collegiate baseball coaches spend the off-season coaching summer ball. Others run camps, all recruit and most take some vacation time. USF coach Nino Giarratano will spend his time off by recovering from a surgery that he underwent to give his father a kidney.
On July 11th, Giarratano checked into the Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver for his first-ever procedure that would require an overnight stay. He was wheeled into the operating room at noon and two hours later, doctors took his kidney next door and began surgery on his father, Mickey. Read the rest of this entry »
Stefan Sabol set to leave Oregon
Oregon catcher/outfielder Stefan Sabol will be transferring to a junior college according to a report from Baseball America. Sabol appeared in 39 games last season with the Ducks hitting .254 with a homer and 15 RBI during his freshman campaign. He has been spending this summer with the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod Baseball League. He has appeared in 22 games with a .300 average with five RBI. Read the rest of this entry »

Fordham Set To Hire Manhattan’s Kevin Leighton
According to CBD sources, Manhattan’s Kevin Leighton will be named head coach at Fordham on Monday. Leighton replaces Nick Restaino who left the program at the end of the 2011 season to pursue other opportunities. Leighton has a career coaching record of 200-119-1 in six seasons at Manhattan including MAAC regular season titles in 2008, 2009 and 2011 along with MAAC tournament titles in 2006 and 2011. Florida State to get “New” Playing Surface
The Florida State baseball program will be getting a new playing surface for the 2012 season as Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The field has been an issue in the past most recently in the 2011 NCAA Tournament where the Alabama and Florida State matchup was suspended after a torrential downpour left the field unplayable. South Carolina’s Bradley Jr. looking to Return?
WEEI.com writer Alex Speier reports that South Carolina outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is preparing to return to Columbia for the 2012 campaign. The Boston Red Sox selected him with the 40th overall selection after having surgery for torn tendons in his left wrist. He returned for the 2011 College World Series where he helped lead the Gamecocks to their second straight national championship.
