Here is your Cape Cod Baseball League Recap for June 26th.

Harwich Mariners 7 Cotuit Kettleers 3

Ronnie Richardson from Central Florida led the offense by going 3-4 with an RBI while teammate Austin Wilson picked up two RBI. NC State sophomore RHP Chris Overman got the win pitching 2.2 scoreless innings in relief while Alex Keudall picked up the loss by giving up four runs (two earned) in only five innings pitched. USA Collegiate National Team defeats North Shore 4-1

LYNN, Mass. – Chris Elder (Oral Roberts) picked up two hits and Eric Anderson (Missouri) scattered three over five innings as the USA Baseball National Team defeated North Shore, 4-1, Sunday night at Fraser Field.

Elder went 2-for-3 in the win, singling in the fourth and singling again in the sixth during Team USA’s three-run inning. A shot to right, it drove in Josh Elander (Texas Christian) from third and gave the team a 2-0 lead. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 CWS Championship Series Preview: Florida vs South Carolina

The Florida Gators and South Carolina Gamecocks will face off in the 2011 College World Series Championship Series (best of three) starting tomorrow in Omaha, Nebraska. Both teams swept through the opening round of the College World Series with identical 3-0 records. The Gators picked up a victory over Texas by a score of 8-4 before defeating Vanderbilt 3-1 and 6-4 to got to the Championship round. The Gamecocks on the other hand grabbed a 5-4 win over Texas A&M before winning over Virginia twice by scores of 7-1 and 3-2 in 13 innings.  Read the rest of this entry »

As many of you know, the Cape Cod Baseball League is the premier college baseball summer league. They started up play a couple of weeks ago and since we were busy with 2011 College World Series coverage, I haven’t been able to update you on some of the current happenings in the league. USA Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader on Friday

Game 1

RINDGE, N.H. – Brady Rodgers (Arizona State) scattered three hits over six innings and the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team opened its slate with a 7-0 victory over Keene Friday morning at Martha Pappas Field.

“I think then most impressive thing for me is how this team performed after getting rained out yesterday,” said Manager Tim Jamieson (Missouri). They came together as a team and played very well. This is one down.”

Rodgers allowed consecutive no-out singles in the second inning, but settled down to retire the next seven batters before allowing a one-out single in the fourth. However, he induced the next batter into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Read the rest of this entry »

South Carolina defeats UVA 3-2 to Advance to Championship Series

OMAHA, Neb. –South Carolina used two Virginia errors in the 13th inning to plate the game-winning run in a thrilling 3-2 victory Tuesday night at the 2011 Men’s College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park. The game was played before a TD Ameritrade Park Omaha record crowd of 25,882.

The defending champion Gamecocks (53-14) advance to their second MCWS finals and will face the Florida Gators (53-17) in a best-of-three series beginning Monday at 8 p.m. ET. No. 1 national seed Virginia finishes its season at 56-12. Read the rest of this entry »

CWS Game 11 – Florida 6, Vanderbilt 4

OMAHA, Neb. – The Florida Gators overcame a late-inning rally from the Vanderbilt Commodores to advance to their second Men’s College World Series championship finals, notching a 6-4 victory on Friday afternoon at TD Ameritrade Park.

Mike Bell to be named New Pitching Coach at Florida State

The Tallahassee Democrat is reporting that current Oklahoma pitching coach Mike Bell will be named the new pitching coach at Florida State. Bell has spent the last four seasons with the Sooners where he had four pitchers named to the All-Big 12 honors this past season while having a total of 16 pitchers selected during his stay in Norman.  Read the rest of this entry »

Fullerton set to name Rick Vanderhook as Head Coach

Cal State Fullerton is set to name current UCLA assistant coach Rick Vanderhook according to sources close to the program. Before going to UCLA to become an assistant coach for the last three seasons, he spent 21 years as an assistant at Cal State Fullerton under Augie Garrido and George Horton.  Read the rest of this entry »

CWS Game 10: Virginia ends Cal season with 8-1 win

OMAHA, Neb. – The Virginia Cavaliers used a strong start from Tyler Wilson and plenty of offense en route to an 8-1 victory over the California Bears in an elimination contest at the 2011 Men’s College World Series Thursday night at TD Ameritrade Park.

Virginia (56-11) also defeated Cal (38-23) in the opening round on Sunday, the first-ever meeting between the two schools, and by advancing have recorded their best MCWS showing in program history. In 11 total appearances, this is the first time the Cavaliers have been included in the final four teams vying for a championship spot. Read the rest of this entry »

Northwestern’s Luke Farrell overcoming Challenges

Junior Luke Farrell‘s (Northwestern) journey to the Cape League proved to be longer than many players who have passed through these fields.

“There were some obstacles for sure,” said the 6’6 Wareham Gatemen right-hander. Farrell spent his freshman year recovering from an operation to remove a golf ball-sized tumor in his throat. Read the rest of this entry »
