2011 Semifinalists for Pitcher of the Year

Sixteen teams are looking toward the Super Regionals and among those teams are seven players on the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Pitcher of the Year Semifinalist List.

2011 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List down to 10

As teams look toward Super Regional play, the list of players in the running for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award has been narrowed to 10.

2011 NCAA Chapel Hill Super Regional: Stanford vs UNC

The Chapel Hill Super Regionals features another West Coast school making the trek to the East as Stanford faces off against the North Carolina Tar Heels. Stanford won the Cal-State Fullerton Regional by sweeping their three games with victories over Kansas State, Cal-State Fullerton, and Illinois. The Tar Heels also had a perfect regional run as they defeated Maine and James Madison (twice) to advance to the Supers.  Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Tallahassee Super Regional Preview: Texas A&M vs Florida State

The Tallahassee Super Regionals kick off on Saturday as the Florida State Seminoles host the Texas A&M Aggies. Both schools won home regionals with Florida State going 3-0 with victories over Bethune-Cookman and defeating Alabama in two games. Texas A&M won their opener against Wright State 11-0, Seton Hall 6-3 before losing 7-4 to Arizona and bouncing back against the Wildcats to win 3-0.  Read the rest of this entry »

CBD Journal with Drew Fann (June 9th)

We are fortunate enough to host one of the eight Super Regionals this weekend, as Oregon State comes to Nashville for the three-game series starting Friday night (8 pm EST on ESPNU). It is the first time in Vanderbilt’s history that we have hosted a Super Regional, so we are all very excited to witness the atmosphere at Hawkins Field tomorrow night. Our fans helped sell-out each of our regional games at the Hawk last weekend against Belmont and Troy, so we plan on seeing just as good of a turnout this weekend as well.  Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Austin (TX) Super Regional Preview: Arizona State vs Texas

The Texas Longhorns and Arizona State Sun Devils face off in Austin, Texas this weekend to decide which squad will advance to the 2011 College World Series. Both teams are coming off home regional victories with Texas going 4-1 with the loss coming to Kent State while Arizona State rolled through the Tempe Regional with three straight victories over New Mexico, Charlotte, and Arkansas.  Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Gainesville Super Regional Preview

At the outset, this series appears to weigh heavily in the home team’s favor. UGA’s Johnathan Taylor Drafted by Texas Rangers

One of the craziest things I have ever seen, the Texas Rangers selected Georgia outfielder Johnathan Taylor in the 33rd round of the 2011 MLB Draft. In case you don’t know, Taylor was seriously injured on March 6th when he had a collision with teammate Zach Cone which injured the C-5 and C-6 vertebrae. He has shown some improvement but still has very little movement below his waist. Do you think the Rangers made a bad selection so early in the Draft when it is highly unlikely that Taylor will ever play baseball again? Video of the Day: Is Danny Fry the next Gus Johnson?

Danny Fry of KALX was on the call on Monday evening during the epic Cal vs Baylor game from the Houston Regional. The Cal Bears were down to their last out and last strike in the bottom of the ninth trailing Baylor 8-7 with the bases loaded. Devon Rodriguez came through with a single to right to win the game. 2011 “Louisville Slugger’s” Freshmen All-American Baseball Team

TUCSON, Ariz. — The 2011 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team, selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, features a wealth of baseball talent.

The team is headed by Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman Pitcher of The Year RHP Corey Knebel of Texas (17 saves, 1.23 ERA, 57 strikeouts and 12 walks in 51 1/3 innings) and Freshman Player of The Year OF Daniel Aldrich, College of Charleston (.347, 22 homers, 17 doubles and 73 RBI).

Will Bolt Returns to Nebraska as Associate Head Coach
