MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After guiding the University of Memphis baseball program to its fourth 30-win season since 1995, head coach Daron Schoenrock was awarded a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the helm of the program through the 2012-13 season.

“We have recommended that Coach Schoenrock’s contract as head baseball coach at the University of Memphis be extended for two years,” athletics director R.C. Johnson said. “The squad was very competitive this season with several notable victories, and with the completion of FedExPark we see no reason why improvement in Tiger baseball should not continue for many years.”

Schoenrock is entering his eight season at the U of M heading into the 2011-12 season. The Tigers finished 30-28 for the third 30-win season in the seven seasons under the direction of Schoenrock. The 2011 squad advanced to the Conference USA Tournament for the fourth time in the last seven seasons and earned three wins over ranked foes.

“It is great to know that we are getting the support of Athletic Director R.C. Johnson and the administration to keep this program moving forward,” head coach Daron Schoenrocksaid. “The support from administration is always a big factor in recruiting. My family and I would like to thank the University of Memphis and R.C. Johnson for getting this done.”

Since Schoenrock took over the program in the 2005 season, Memphis has posted a 177-225 record and earned a spot in the 2007 NCAA Regional field. Schoenrock achieved two milestones in 2011 as he passed the late skipper Al Brown for third all-time in program history with his 157th victory at the U of M and later in the season claimed his 200th career victory as a head coach.

Under the direction of Schoenrock, the program has improved on and off the baseball diamond. In the classroom, the 2011 squad posted a program-record for an academic year with a 3.273 cumulative grade-point average. Last fall, the Tigers combined for a semester record of 3.278 and this spring they posted a spring semester record GPA of 3.268.
