Home MLB Draft UGA’s Johnathan Taylor Drafted by Texas Rangers

UGA’s Johnathan Taylor Drafted by Texas Rangers

One of the craziest things I have ever seen, the Texas Rangers selected Georgia outfielder Johnathan Taylor in the 33rd round of the 2011 MLB Draft. In case you don’t know, Taylor was seriously injured on March 6th when he had a collision with teammate Zach Cone which injured the C-5 and C-6 vertebrae. He has shown some improvement but still has very little movement below his waist. Do you think the Rangers made a bad selection so early in the Draft when it is highly unlikely that Taylor will ever play baseball again? Is the MLB Draft too long when teams are wasting 33rd round picks on players? We have included some fan reactions below and feel free to leave your comments.

‘Is the MLB Draft too long when teams are wasting 33rd round picks on players?’nTo answer the question, Yes. u00a0Follow the head cheese when it comes to drafts, the NFL. u00a0Reduce the number of rounds. u00a0nnAlthough done with good intentions, the selection may have cost one player a potential pro career. u00a0nIf they want to honor Taylor they should donate money towards his medical/rehab costs.u00a0nThere was no need for the Rangers to get publicity in this way.n

on the pick:nI like it, I think its a great gesture!u00a0 Teams sign guys in these late rounds but they are not “must have guys”u00a0 they are more needs to fill rosters so that the 18 yr old 1st rder has a team to play on while he develops.u00a0nnThere are a lot of slots to fill in the minors unlike other major sports, and they still end up signing free agents
