2011 John Olerud Award Watch List

The College Baseball Hall of Fame announced today the names of 25 players from across the country featured on the watch list for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.

The Olerud Award, which recognizes a player who makes an impact both on the mound and at the plate, will be presented in Lubbock, Texas, on July 3 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

The quarterfinalists for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award were released today by the College Baseball Hall of Fame. The list features 25 of the nation’s finest Division I shortstops.

The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented on July 3 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions. Read the rest of this entry »

SEC Series of the Week: Florida at Arkansas

The SEC Series of the Week kicks off tonight with the Florida Gators heading to Arkansas for a three game series that starts tonight. Jeff Calcaterra relieved as Hartford Head Coach

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Hartford Director of Athletics Patricia Meiser announced on Wednesday that the department will make a change in the leadership of the baseball program. Head coach Jeff Calcaterra has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately. Jerry Shank will assume the Interim Head Coaching position, while Inaki Ormaechea will remain in the role of an assistant coach. The University will immediately begin a nationwide search for Calcaterra’s successor.

Catch of the Year? Pepperdine vs UCLA

NCBWA Names Pro-Liine Athletic National Players of the Week (May 3rd)

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 1, today. Utah junior shortstop James Brooks and Army senior shortstop Clint Moore were named Co-National Hitters of the Week, while Oregon State redshirt junior left-hander Josh Osich was named National Pitcher of the Week. CBD Journal with Drew Fann (May 3rd)

One topic that hasn’t been discussed yet is hitting/pitching introduction songs that are played as we step to the plate or head to the mound. Choosing a song is no quick task—hours, maybe even days, are wasted (literally) researching and deciding on the right song or beat. Our songs are one way for our fans to identify us. People who have their head turned may hear Jay-Z’s “A Star is Born” and realize that Joe Loftus is about to hit.
