Here is your SEC Recap for May 7th.

#1 Vanderbilt 10 Kentucky 3

Lexington, Ky. – Vanderbilt bounced back to even the series with Kentucky in a 10-3 win Saturday night at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Commodores’ starter Grayson Garvin cruised through eight innings to notch his team-best 10th win of the year. The big lefty allowed one run on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Garvin scattered two hits over the first five innings before allowing a home run to Chad Wright to open the bottom of the sixth inning.  Read the rest of this entry »

UCF 14 #7 Florida State 10

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Senior Jonathan Griffin’s mammoth grand slam capped off a seven-run seventh in UCF’s wild 14-10 victory at No. 6 Florida State (35-12) Saturday. It was the Knights’ (29-18) third victory against a top-10 team this season (defeated top-five Florida twice), and they now have seven victories over ranked opponents on the year, which are the most since the 2004 roster also produced seven wins. 2011 Ivy League Championship Preview: Dartmouth vs Princeton

ACC Recap for May 6th

#13 UNC 5 Maryland 0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior right-hander Patrick Johnson struck out a career-high 12 batters during seven shutout innings as No. 12 North Carolina (35-10, 14-8 ACC) downed Maryland (20-30, 5-20 ACC), 5-0, Friday night at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels have won four straight games and stretched its streak of not allowing an earned run to 30 innings in the win.

After waiting an hour due to a rain delay, Patrick Johnson came out dealing Friday night as he allowed just four hits and struck out a dozen en route to earning his eighth win of the year.

Colin Moran had a hand in all five runs for the Tar Heels as he scored a pair of runs and drove in three more with a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning to blow the game open.

2011 National Pitcher of the Year Watch List

The College Baseball Hall of Fame announced today the quarterfinalists for the 2011 Pitcher of the Year Award. The list features 25 of the nation’s finest Division I pitchers.

Big 12 Weekend Preview (5/6-5/8)

With only a few weeks left until the postseason starts, the Big 12 features three conference series, two out-of-conference series, and a pair of teams taking the weekend off.

Texas travels north to take on Nebraska for the final time as conference opponents. The Longhorns took a pair from the Sooners last weekend, giving them an important boost in the standings, and setting up a possible winner-take-all showdown against Texas A&M to close out the regular season. Taylor Jungmann is one of the best overall players in the nation, and Cole Green has steadied after a rough start. The Longhorns are still looking for a third starter to pick up the slack. The player to watch is SS Brandon Loy. Loy has always had an excellent glove and arm, and has found his stroke this season. Read the rest of this entry »

ACC Weekend Preview (May 6th-8th)

The ACC has a slow week with only four teams facing off in conference play as most of the teams are in the midst of finals. The two series are with North Carolina hosting Maryland and Boston College heading down to Wake Forest.

The out of conference series sees Central Florida visiting Florida State, Gardner-Webb and Clemson facing off in a home and home series, Georgia Tech heading on the road for a rare three game series at Illinois-Chicago, Miami (FL) hosting Hofstra, East Tennessee State at NC State, and James Madison at Virginia Tech. SEC Weekend Preview (May 6th-8th)

The SEC enters crunch time in the conference race this week with each team having three conference series left on the year. Leading the SEC East is South Carolina and Vanderbilt with identical 17-4 records. Florida is one game behind them at 17-5 after a 4-3 defeat to Arkansas in the SEC Thursday Night Game of the Week. Georgia would be leading the SEC West but they are in the Eastern Division so they are in fourth place at 13-8. Rounding out the Eastern Division is Tennessee at 5-16 while Kentucky is 4-17. Missouri Valley Conference Weekend Preview (May 6th-8th)

As we cross the mid-point of the MVC conference season, the teams of the Valley gear up for week number five with three teams tied for second, two games behind Creighton.

All eyes will be on Wichita, KS where the Shockers will host the first-place Jays’ in a possible preview of the MVC Championship game to be played later this month. Meanwhile, the best hitting team and best pitching team in the conference go head-to-head this weekend in Normal, Ill. Conference USA Weekend Preview (May 6th-8th)

With three weeks left in the season, Southern Miss sits atop the Conference USA standings with a two game lead over the rest of the pack. Houston has rebounded from a sub-par start to the season to amass a 9-6 conference record, tying them for second with cross-town rival Rice—whom they play this weekend. Memphis and UAB are tied for third at 9-9. Nationally, Southern Miss cracks the top 20 for the first time this season at #19, while Rice moves up one spot to #21.
