LA Tech Seniors Will Alvis and Joey Ford go out in Style

Louisiana Tech swept a doubleheader from Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday night by scores of 15-1 and 5-4. The victories were not the story on the evening as Louisiana Tech honored their six seniors including Will Alvis and Joey Ford. Both Alvis and Ford completed a rare feat in the game playing all nine positions during the second game of the doubleheader including Alvis pitching a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his second save of the year.  Read the rest of this entry »

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior right-hander Bryant Gaines threw six innings of two-run ball and No. 9 North Carolina (39-10) scored a pair of runs in the final two innings to post a 4-2 victory over visiting UNC Asheville (15-30) Wednesday night at Boshamer Stadium. Brian Goodwin commits to South Carolina

Former North Carolina and current Miami-Dade outfielder Brian Goodwin has committed to South Carolina according to John Whittle of TheBigSpur.com. Goodwin started his college baseball career at North Carolina where he as a freshman in 2010. He appeared in 60 games hitting .291 with seven homers and 63 RBI. During the fall of 2010, he was suspended for the 2011 season by North Carolina and decided to transfer to Miami Dade College for the 2011 season.  Read the rest of this entry »

Longtime Cornell Baseball, Football Coach Ted Thoren Passes Away

ITHACA, N.Y. — Theodore H. (Ted) Thoren, longtime coach of baseball and freshman football at Cornell University, passed away on Tuesday morning in Ithaca at the age of 89 after a lengthy illness. Thoren, who coached the Cornell baseball program from 1962 until his retirement in 1990, was a member of seven halls of fame, including the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame and the Ithaca College Sports Hall of Fame. CBD Journal with Drew Fann (May 11th)

With final exams behind us, we headed to Lexington last weekend for a match up against the Kentucky Wildcats. We lost 2-0 on Friday, but quickly responded to win 10-3 on Saturday and 6-3 on Sunday. Last week I wrote that Alex Meyer is one of the best pitchers in the country and he definitely pitched like it on Friday, throwing a complete game shutout. Sonny Gray was saddled with the loss, which is a shame because he also threw a complete game in one of his best outings of the year. Read the rest of this entry »

Catch of the Year?

Baylor sophomore CF Logan Vick robbed TCU LF Jason Coats of his 8th home run on the year tonight with a great over-the-fence grab in center field. With two outs in the 4th, Coats drove a Trent Blanks pitch to deep center for what looked like a three-run homer, but Vick followed it well, jumped at the wall, and snagged the would-be hit for the final out of the inning.The Horned Frogs led 5-2 at that point, and would have blown it open if it weren’t for Vick’s grab. NCBWA Names Pro-Line Athletic National Players of the Week (May 10th)

MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 8, today. Michigan State senior 1B Jeff Holm was named National Hitter of the Week, while Kentucky junior RHP Alex Meyer and Texas State junior RHP Carson Smith were named Co-National Hitters of the Week.
