Mississippi State Head Coach John Cohen named in Lawsuit

UPDATED on May 13th at 5:30 PM

Current Mississippi Athletic Director Scott Stricklin told Matthew Stevens the following about the case:

“We are aware of the lawsuit filed by former baseball player Forrest Moore. We are confident that we operate our baseball program in compliance with the rules of the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA. We will allow the university’s general counsel to comment further on this legal matter.”

Current Mississippi State head coach John Cohen and Senior Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations, Corporate Development Mike Nemeth are among three defendants named in a lawsuit brought by former MSU pitcher Forrest Moore. Moore made 29 appearances on the mound including 11 starts in his Mississippi State career between 2008-09 and compiled a 3-3 record with a 7.17 earned run average with one save and 87 strikeouts.After the 2009 season, John Cohen was hired by Mississippi State from Kentucky to take over from Ron Polk.  Read the rest of this entry »

Texas Tech’s Dan Law Field to undergo Renovations

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech University officials announced today a $5 million renovation to Dan Law Field that will provide Red Raider Baseball with one of the best on-campus collegiate facilities in the country. 2011 Patriot League Semifinals Preview

Center Valley, Pa. — After the most competitive regular-season race in League history, four teams will open up postseason play with semifinal series of the Patriot League Baseball Tournament this weekend.

The matchups pit No. 4 Bucknell at No. 1 Navy and No. 3 Lafayette at No. 2 Army, with each three-game series featuring a doubleheader on Saturday and decisive final game, if necessary, on Sunday afternoon. CBD Live Chat: Louisville vs UConn (May 13th)

College Baseball Daily will be running a Live Chat tonight from Norwich, Connecticut as UConn takes on Louisville in a key Big East showdown for the Huskies chances of getting an at-large berth and possible regional host spot in the 2011 NCAA Baseball Tournament. SEC Weekend Preview (May 13th-15th)

The SEC enters their second to last weekend of conference play with all four ranked squads facing off against each other. The marquee series is between #6 ranked Florida and #1 ranked Vanderbilt. The other ranked series sees #16 ranked Arkansas visiting #3 South Carolina. The Thursday-Saturday series this week features Ole Miss hosting Mississippi State. The Bulldogs took a tight 7-6 game on Thursday night to start the series off with a key win. ACC Weekend Preview (May 13th-15th)

The ACC enters their second to last weekend of action with two series matching up ranked squads with #24 Miami heading to #2 ranked Virginia and #11 North Carolina going to #15 Georgia Tech. The two other ranked teams in action are #7 Florida State at NC State and #13 ranked Clemson at Virginia Tech. The only ACC matchup between two unranked teams is Wake Forest at Duke. Conference USA Weekend Preview (May 13th-15th)

With just two CUSA series left to play, the regular season championship has become a two-team race as #17 Southern Miss sits just two games ahead of #19 Rice for the lead in the conference standings. East Carolina is the only other team with an over-.500 record, as the Pirates 11-10 mark is good for third place. Houston falls into a fourth place tie with Memphis after dropping all three games to Rice at home last weekend. Nationally, Southern Miss jumps two spots to #17, their highest ranking all season, while Rice re-cracks the top 20 at #19 this week. Read the rest of this entry »

Missouri Valley Conference Weekend Preview (May 13th-15th)

With two weeks remaining in MVC conference play, the Creighton Jays sit atop the conference standings with a 10-5 conference record, one-game ahead of Wichita State at 9-6. Meanwhile, Illinois State and Southern Illinois remain tied for fourth at 8-7, a half-game behind Missouri State (8-6) who had a game of their Evansville series cancelled due to rain. Big West Weekend Preview (May 13th-15th)

The Big West is in full swing with only a few weekends left. All nine teams are in action with four conference match-ups taking the field and another team playing out of conference. Long Beach travels to Fullerton for a tough match-up, UC Davis travels south to Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara hosts the Anteaters of Irvine and Riverside will be in Northridge. The lone out-of-conference game has the Pacific Tigers going north to take on the Red Hawks of Seattle University. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Ivy League Award Winners

PRINCETON, N.J. — The Princeton Tigers made a return to the top of the Ivy standings for the first time since 2006, and did so largely due to the play of junior catcher/outfielder Sam Mulroy (Bethesda, Md.) and RHP/first baseman Mike Ford (Belle Mead, N.J.), who were voted the 2011 Ivy League Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively, in a vote by the League’s eight head coaches. The SEC Thursday Night Game of the Week will feature an intrastate matchup between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Running Rebels in Oxford.
