#14 North Carolina 3 #1 Virginia 2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 13 North Carolina capped off a three-game series sweep of top-ranked Virginia (44-12, 22-8 ACC) as the Tar Heels (44-12, 20-10 ACC) used a three-run fifth inning en route to a 3-2 win over the Cavaliers Saturday afternoon on senior day at Boshamer Stadium.

Carolina tallied its first sweep of Virginia since 2005 and held the ninth-highest scoring team in the country to just three runs over the weekend series. The Tar Heels delivered a loss to Virginia starter Will Roberts for the first time in his career, as Roberts came into Saturday with a flawless 17-0 mark.

The Tar Heels tallied four hits, including a pair of doubles, in the three-run fifth as Seth Baldwin and Colin Moran came up with the run-producing knocks.

#12 Clemson 8 #6 Florida State 5

Tallahassee, FL – Richie Shaffer and John Hinson both hit home runs and David Haselden pitched 2.2 hitless and scoreless innings in relief to lead #15 Clemson to an 8-5 victory over #4 Florida State in front of 4,761 fans at Dick Howser Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, improved to 39-17 overall and 17-13 in the ACC. Clemson also ended the regular season by winning each of its last six ACC series. The Seminoles dropped to 40-15 overall and 19-11 in ACC play.

The Tigers scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. James Ramey’s three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning cut Clemson’s lead to two runs. The Seminoles narrowed Clemson’s lead to one run with two runs in the eighth inning inning, but the Tigers added two insurance runs in the ninth inning and closed out the three-run win.

Haselden (5-1) pitched 2.2 hitless and scoreless innings to earn the win of in relief of starter Jonathan Meyer, who tied his career high with seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched. Scott Weismann retired all three batters he faced in the ninth inning to record his second save of the series and sixth of the season.

#15 Georgia Tech 5 Virginia Tech 3

BLACKSBURG, Va. – No. 8 Georgia Tech (39-17, 22-8 ACC) used a three-run fourth inning to back seven strong innings from sophomore pitcher Buck Farmer for a 5-3 win over Virginia Tech (30-25, 11-19 ACC) Saturday in the regular season finale at English Field.

The Yellow Jackets earned a share of the ACC Coastal Division season title with No. 1 Virginia.

Tech’s 22 conference wins also tie a school-record, previously set by the 2005 team. With 17 freshmen on the roster, the 2011 team is the youngest in head coach Danny Hall’s 18 seasons.

“I think that says a lot about our team,” head coach Danny Hall said. “These guys didn’t let the fact that they are freshmen get in the way, and they played hard all year and I am proud of them. We had a great regular season and that’s saying a lot that we tied the school record [for conference wins in the regular season.]”

#23 Miami, Florida 5 Duke 2

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Miami Hurricanes rebounded from a tough loss on Friday night to take the regular season finale, 5-2, from Duke on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park.

Rony Rodriguez (three extra-base hits and three runs batted in) and Zeke DeVoss (four hits) led the Canes offensively, and the pitching staff allowed only three hits on the afternoon en route to the series clinching win on Fan Appreciation Day.

The Hurricanes finish the regular season at 34-20 (19-10 Atlantic Coast Conference), while Duke ends the year at 26-30 (7-23 ACC).

After allowing an unearned run to Duke in the top of the first, Rodriguez responded with a two-run homer to left field to give the Canes a lead they would not relinquish in the bottom of the inning. It was the team-leading 10th home run on the year for Rodriguez, who ranks tied for fourth in the ACC in long balls.

NC State 6 Boston College 1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Rob Chamra took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Matt Bergquist drove in three runs Saturday to lead NC State past Boston College 6-1 in the final game of a three-game series at Shea Field.

NC State, which swept the series, finishes the regular season 33-23 overall and an even 15-15 in the ACC. The Wolfpack went 23-13 overall and 14-10 in the conference after beginning the year 10-10 and 1-5. Boston College finishes the season 17-33 overall and 7-22 in the ACC.

After scoring six runs the first three innings Thursday and eight on Friday, the Wolfpack had to wait until the fourth to take the early lead in the series finale. Pratt Maynard led off the fourth with a single to left and Harold Riggins walked. Tarran Senay tried to bunt the runners up a base, but bunted the ball right back to Laufer in front of the mound. Laufer threw to third to retire Maynard for the first out of the inning, but later moved the runners to second and third on his own with a wild pitch and then hit Andrew Ciencin with a pitch to load the bases with one away.

Wake Forest 4 at Maryland 0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Austin Stadler allowed just one hit through five innings before letting the bullpen finish the shutout, as Wake Forest completed the sweep of Maryland with a 4-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.

Wake Forest is now 25-28 overall and finishes the ACC Regular Season with a 15-15 record. The Terrapins end their season at 21-35 and 5-25 in conference play. This season marks the first time that the Demon Deacons have finished .500 or better in the ACC since 2006 when the team was 16-13.

The Deacs reached .500 by winning eight of their last nine conference games, including sweeps over Maryland and Boston College.
