#12 Clemson 19 Davidson 0

Clemson, SC – Will Lamb had five of the Tigers’ season-high 23 hits in #15 Clemson’s 19-0 victory over Davidson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday night. In their last regular-season home game, the Tigers improved to 37-16 on the season. The Wildcats ended their season with an 18-30 record.

The Tigers put on an offensive show, as Clemson tied its season high for runs and tied a school record with a .523 batting average (23-for-44) in the game. It tied Clemson’s performance against Georgia Southern on March 12, 2002, when the Tigers were also 23-for-44 that day. The Tigers scored at least one run in all eight innings in which they batted as well.

#14 North Carolina 7 Appalachian State 2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina broke open a tight contest with a four-run eighth inning Tuesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium as the Tar Heels (41-12) posted a 7-2 win over visiting Appalachian State (29-24). Greg Holt improved to 7-1 on the year as he threw 4.1 innings of relief, striking out a career-high seven batters.

Seth Baldwin and Levi Michael each drove in a pair of the Tar Heels and lead off man Chaz Frank scored twice and reached base three times for Carolina.

Starter Cody Stiles was unable to get out of the first inning as he issued three walks and hit a batter allowing Appalachian State to score the game’s opening run. Greg Holt came on with the bases loaded in the first and picked up the final out to keep the damage to a minimum.

East Tennessee State 8 #15 Georgia Tech 6

ATLANTA, Ga. (May 17, 2011) – Derek Niesman’s (Wellington, Fla.) two-run single in the top of the ninth lifted the ETSU baseball team to an 8-6 win over 8th ranked Georgia Tech Tuesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.
The win is one of the biggest for the  Bucs (35-17, 15-10 A-Sun) against a top 10 ranked team in the program’s history, and is also the first win for ETSU in 24 attempts against the Rambling Wreck (37-16, 20-7 ACC).
In the top of the ninth with the game tied at 6-all, the Bucs loaded the bases on a Michael Gonzalez (Jupiter, Fla.) two-out walk. In the next at-bat, Niesman drilled a 3-2 fastball through the left side of the infield to score catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) to give ETSU an 8-6 lead.
Florida Atlantic 7 #23 Miami (FL) 4

Boca Raton, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team helped its cause on the national stage by knocking off No. 15-ranked University of Miami 7-4 on Tuesday evening at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables, Fla.

The win marked the first time that the Owls had won a three-game season series from the Hurricanes. FAU also defeated Miami on February 23 when the Hurricanes were ranked No. 20. FAU improved to 31-20 on the season. The Hurricanes fall to 32-19 overall.

Florida Atlantic got a quality starting pitching performance from sophomore Jake Meiers and used 11 hits evenly placed hits to score runs in four of the nine innings.

Miami (FL) Recap

Duke 7 The Citadel 5

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Drew Van Orden threw 3.1 scoreless innings in relief to lead a shutout effort from Duke’s bullpen in a 7-5 win over defending Southern Conference Champion The Citadel on Tuesday afternoon at Riley Park.

Van Orden (5-3) entered a tied game in the bottom of the sixth inning and the go-ahead run on third base and shut out The Citadel (20-33) the rest of the way. The 6-3, 180-pound freshman allowed only one runner to reach base and used just 37 pitches to end the game.

Six different Blue Devils drove in a run, including freshman Jordan Betts who drove in the game-winner with an RBI groundout in the top of the seventh. Classmate Matt Berezo also kept his hot streak alive with three hits and an RBI and is now batting .522 during his seven-game hitting streak.
