  • One of the stories of the games on Friday evening was the Kentucky Wildcats picking up a 2-0 win over number 1 ranked Vanderbilt. The star of the game was Alex Meyer who pitched the complete game shutout for the Wildcats giving up only five hits and striking out five to pick up his fifth win on the year. Vanderbilt starter Sonny Gray was the hard luck loser giving up two runs on four hits while striking out nine. This result was not a huge shocker though as Meyer is expected to be a Top 10 selection in the 2011 MLB Draft.
  • The Arkansas Razorbacks picked up a 5-3 win over Florida to clinch the series victory from the Gators. We can’t figure out why the Gators have continued to be a nonchalant squad as they should be dominating the college baseball world with all the talent in their lineup and on the pitching staff. Hopefully, they turn this around soon though for the postseason run.
  • It has been a tough year at Washington State this season. Nothing changed on Friday as UNLV picked up a 4-1 victory over the Cougars behind a Tanner Peters second straight complete game. He only allowed four hits while giving up an unearned run and striking out four. It was the Rebels 29th win of the season for first year coach Tim Chambers while the Cougars dropped their record to 19-21.
  • The Louisville Cardinals have struggled throughout the season and nothing has changed this weekend against Seton Hall. After losing 1-0 in 18 innings on Thursday evening in the series opener, they dropped another 1-0 decision to the Pirates. The Cardinals have been a major disappointment this season as they are 25-22 while being 11-9 in Big East play.
  • Noe Ramirez returned to the hill for Cal-State Fullerton on Friday for the first time in two weeks. He was solid giving up only one hit in six innings while walking two and striking out five. The Titans were able to use that start to propel them to the 4-1 victory over UC-Riverside. The Titans had 16 hits in the game while leaving 16 runners on base in the game. They will need to be better at getting runners in if they want to get into the mix for a bid in the College World Series.
  • Gerrit Cole has had back to back bad outings coming into his Friday night start against Oregon. He returned to his preseason hype form against the Ducks as he went 7.1 innings giving up six hits and only one run while striking out five to up his record to 5-5 on the year as the UCLA Bruins defeated Oregon 7-1.
  • Richmond LHP Bret Williams continues to dominate in the Atlantic 10 as he helped defeat conference leader Charlotte 3-0. Williams went seven shutout innings giving up only three hits, walking three, and striking out five batters. Charlotte’s Andrew Smith was the tough luck loser as he went 8.1 innings striking out 10 batters while allowing three hits and two runs.
