Jeff Calcaterra relieved as Hartford Head Coach

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Hartford Director of Athletics Patricia Meiser announced on Wednesday that the department will make a change in the leadership of the baseball program. Head coach Jeff Calcaterra has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately. Jerry Shank will assume the Interim Head Coaching position, while Inaki Ormaechea will remain in the role of an assistant coach. The University will immediately begin a nationwide search for Calcaterra’s successor.

School provides no support or indoor practice facility.

Sounds like an excuse to me…There are schools with less support that has won more then three games this season.

I attended Hartford and played for two years under the direction of Coach Calcaterra.u00a0 I had much respect for him .u00a0 His methods were unorthodox and treated his players like crap.u00a0 I am glad to see him go.u00a0 He didn’t do a much better job that our former coach Harvey Shapiro.u00a0 Slider, tell me, other than large D-1 schools in the northern USA, what low level D-1s have an indoor facility?u00a0 We had a batting cage under the gym stands, but it was the poor attitude he brought in with him in the spring of 2005 that set a program under his direction up for failure.

this guy was nothing but a big ego…..parting ways with this guy was a long time coming…
