We have a new #1 for the 4th week in a row. Stetson (34-10) gets the top spot for week #12 after a 3-1 week. Stetson dropped a mid week game to Bethune Cookman before sweeping North Florida in A-Sun play.
Last weeks top spot was held by TCU (31-13) who drops one spot to #2 after going 2-2 on the week. TCU lost at Dallas Baptist and vs Oklahoma mid week before winning first 2 games at BYU before getting the 3rd game snowed out. Yes snowed out………Fresno St (30-8) also drops one spot to #3 dropping 2 of 3 vs Hawaii in WAC play. The 4th and final game of series is on Monday. Fresno St is now 1.5 games back of Hawaii in the WAC. This was one of the first weeks a new team could have entered the top 3 but teams right below TCU and Fresno St also lost.
SE Louisiana (30-16) jumps several teams and 5 spots to #4. The Lions went 4-1 on the week with mid week wins at Louisiana and vs New Orleans before taking 2 of 3 at Sam Houston St in Southland play. With the win Sunday SE Louisiana moves into sole possesion of 3rd place in the SLC which is key if they want to land an atlarge……..Texas St (28-16) stays at #5 with a 3-2 week. The Bobcats lost 2-0 at Texas on Tuesday and beat Prairie View on Wed before taking 2 of 3 vs McNeese St.
Elon (30-17) moves up one spot to #6 with a 4-1 week. The Phoenix split a home and home series with Wake Forest before sweeping Davidson in SOCON play. With the sweep and other SOCON results Elon has a 2.5 game lead in SOCON with 3 weekends left.
Troy (31-13) had a tough week going 1-3 and dropping to #7. Troy lost 4-3 at UAB on Tuesday and lost 2 of 3 games at Florida Atlantic………Florida International (28-16) and Florida Atlantic (26-17) both moved up in the “Mid-Major Major 25” and the Sunbelt standings. FIU sweept South Alabama moving up to #10 and FAU won 2 of 3 games vs Troy to move up to #11. Both clubs improved to 13-8 in Sunbelt 2 games back of Troy in the Sunbelt.(along with Louisiana)
Coastal Carolina (30-15) got back on track this week moving up 3 spots to #12 with a 4-0 week. Coastal went to UNCW and picked up a win mid-week before sweeping VMI in Big South play.
Georgia Southern (25-19) dropped 7 spots to #13 with a 1-3 week. GSU picked up a win at Kennesaw St on Wednesday but traveled to UNCG in SOCON play and got swept. GSU entered the weekend in 1st place in SOCON and leave the weekend in 4th place. GSU’s Victor Roache did hit another 4 HRs this week to bring his season and NCAA leading total to 23 and 4 shy of the SOCON single season record of 27. What new bats?
Wichita St (28-19) moves up 2 spots to #14 with a 3-1 week. The Shockers beat Oklahoma St 6-5 on Tuesday before winning 2 of 3 games at S. Illinios in MVC play………College of Charleson (30-15) also moves up 2 spots to #15 sweeping series at Wofford…….San Jose St (30-16) joins them also moving up 2 spots to #16 with a 4-1 week…….The last team to move up 2 spots is Jacksonville (26-16) who ends up at #17 winning 2 of 3 at FGCU in A-Sun play.
Cal St Bakersfield (25-15) dropped 7 spots to #18 after a rough 1-4 week. The Roadrunners bid at an atlarge took a big hit this week when they dropped 2 mid week games to Kansas St before losing 2 of 3 to UC-Irvine. They have now lost 7 of 8 and seen their RPI drop to #63 according to warrennolan.com as of Sunday night. However they still have some very good games left(2 at Kansas St, 3 at UCLA, and 3 vs Fresno St) so by no means are these guys done.
Stephen F. Austin (30-13) slides up 1 spot to #21 after taking 2 of 3 from UT-Arlington in SLC play. SFA lost the opening game to UTA 5-4 in 16 innings and the Lumberjacks pushed 1 across in btm 9th to tie and 1 to win in btm 10th on Sunday to take the series and stay tied atop the SLC at 17-7 with Texas St……..Dallas Baptist (30-13) moves up 1 spot to #23 after beating TCU 9-7 on Monday and sweeping 4 games from Mississippi Valley St.
Pittsburgh (26-15) dropped 8 spots to #22 after dropping 2 of 3 at home to Cincinnati. With the home series loss by Pitt it puts #19 UCONN (31-13-1) in the drivers seat for the Big East regular season crown up 3 games.
Only one team dropped out of the top 25 this week. #23 Mercer (29-17) drops out after losing 2 of 3 at Winthrop.
That just leaves one new team to get in this week. Came up with 5 teams for the one spot. Kent St (30-12) went 4-0 with wins over Cleveland St and (3) at Ohio, Gonzaga (25-13) who swept Santa Clara on road, ETSU (27-15) who went 4-0 with win at E. Kentucky and swept Manhattan, James Madison (30-15) which went 3-1 and lost at VMI but then swept UNCW in Wilmington, and UNCG who went 4-0 with win over High Point and swept Georgia Southern.
The winner is UNCG (25-17) who comes in at #25 this week. The other clubs had nice weeks but UNCG had a better week beating High Point and sweeping a pretty darn good GSU club. With the sweep the Spartans are now 14-7 in SOCON and tied for second with CofC who UNCG visits next weekend. UNCG has now won 2 of 3 vs Delaware, beat St Johns, won 2 of 3 vs Elon, 2 of 3 at Samford, and now swept GSU. If in case you do not think that is impressive look at where they were in 2010, UNCG was (20-33 overall and 7-23 SOCON)

How do you have UNCG ahead of James Madison when Madison beat them, at UNCG, has a better overall record, and one of the best offenses in the nation?

UNCG got the edge because they went 4-0 with win over High Point and sweeping Georgia Southern. JMU went 3-1 on week with loss to VMI and swept UNCW. Greensboro got the edge because they went 4-0 and swept a better team. But if JMU did not lose to VMI i would have put them in instead of UNCG because of the head to head win. nnDont worry UNCG will have to earn their spot this week when they play College of Charleston.
Wow I would not think of TCU as a Mid Major? I think they are just as good or better than most of the big boys.
Baseball or any other sport for that matter does not classify “mid-major” by individual teams, it is the conference they play in.
uconn is currently 31-13 with a 15-3 record in the big east, leading the #9 team in the poll (louisville) by 4 games. hell, uconn is ranked higher in some major polls than it is in this poll. i know louisville usually has a great program but they are down this season which is why it makes no sense to have them at #9 in this poll ahead of other deserving teams

UCONN started the season 8-9 and have been beating up on bunch of not very good teams lately. UCONN has not played a team with a RPI of lower than #142 since it swept St Johns a month ago. Thats alot of wins vs not very good clubs. I know they are good they were #2 in preseason poll it just took alot of wins for them to get back in. They will get in a regional and i would not want to play them with Barnes throwing.nnthat is why UCONN is so low.
