#1 Virginia 4 Boston College 0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Will Roberts (Jr., Richmond, Va.) tossed eight shutout innings and John Hicks (Jr., Sandy Hook, Va.) knocked in three runs to propel the No. 1-ranked Virginia baseball team to a 4-0 win over Boston College Sunday afternoon at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Virginia captured two of three games for the series win.

Virginia (42-5, 20-4 ACC) built on its ACC record with its 14th shutout of the season while clinching its 14th straight ACC series win, including all eight this season. Boston College dropped to 16-26 overall and 7-16 in the ACC.

#23 Miami 5 #9 Florida State 1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Everything that seemed to go wrong for the Canes on Friday and Saturday went right on Sunday as Miami beat rival FSU, 5-1, at Alex Rodriguez Park. The Hurricanes were flawless in the field (after a combined nine errors in the first two games), the bats came alive and the pitching staff kept the Seminoles at bay in an important win in the series finale.

The victory improved Miami’s record to 29-15 overall and 16-7 in ACC play. FSU dropped to 33-11 and 16-8 with the loss.

A day after its first shut-out loss to FSU in eight seasons, UM’s bats were working right out of the gate on Sunday as the Canes scored two runs in the first and another in the second.

#18 Clemson 3 #13 Georgia Tech 1

Clemson, SC – Graduate righthander Justin Sarratt (5-1) allowed only three hits and one unearned run in a career-long 8.1 innings pitched to lead #23 Clemson to a 3-1 victory over #9 Georgia Tech in front 4,419 fans atDoug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, improved to 29-15 overall and 13-11 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets fell to 31-14 overall and 18-6 in ACC play.

Phil Pohl’s solo home run in the first inning gave Clemson an early lead, then the Yellow Jackets capitalized on an error to even the score in the top of the fourth inning on Jacob Esch’s two-out, run-scoring single. The Tigers came right back and scored two two-out runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on hits by Jeff Schaus and Will Lamb. Both starting pitchers cruised during the next four innings before Georgia Tech loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning. But Scott Weismann struck out Zane Evans to end the game.

NC State 7 Maryland 5

RALEIGH, N.C. — Brett Williams singled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday, and Ethan Ogburn worked four shutout innings in relief to lift NC State past Maryland 7-5 in the final game of a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack, which won the series two games to one, improves to 26-19 overall and 10-13 in the ACC. Maryland falls to 20-27 and 5-19.

NC State bashed out 11 hits in the game, reaching double figures in all three games of the series and for the fourth time in as many games. Williams and Harold Riggins both went 3-for-5, with Williams driving in three runs, and Chris Diaz went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.

Maryland Recap

Virginia Tech 9 Duke 0

DURHAM, N.C. – Joe Parsons threw a six-hit complete game shutout and Jake Atwelldrove in three runs to help Virginia Tech take its ACC series at Duke with a 9-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Bulls Athletic Park.

Tech improved to 26-20 overall, 9-15 in the conference with the win, while Duke fell to 21-26, 5-19 in the league.

Parsons threw 116 pitches on the afternoon, 80 for strikes, scattered the six hits and two walks and struck out five batters. Even though he allowed the first two batters to reach in the ninth, he worked out of his own jam to earn Tech’s first ACC shutout since March 26, 2010 (7-0 versus Wake Forest).
