UConn’s Justin Blood set to take over Hartford Baseball

College Baseball Daily has learned that current UConn Assistant Coach Justin Blood is set to take over the Hartford University baseball program. Blood has been a key member of the UConn baseball program recent upswing including being involved in recruiting both George Springer and Matt Barnes.

CBD Journal with Drew Fann (May 31st)

We gathered to watch the NCAA Selection Show at the Commodore Grille, a restaurant near campus, with about 200 of our fans. Even after four years, it is still very exciting to see “Vanderbilt” pop up on ESPN as a regional participant. UCSB Announces Change in Leadership

UC Santa Barbara Director of Athletics Mark W. Massari announced Sunday that a change in leadership has been made in the Gauchos’ baseball program and that Bob Brontsema, the head coach since 1994, would move into an administrative position within the Athletics Department. Tournament Decisions “More An Art Than A Science,” Claims Weiser

This year’s NCAA Baseball Tournament Committee had some difficult decisions to make when it came to picking the 64 teams that would continue their seasons. Given some close and controversial choices, committee chair and Big 12 deputy commissioner Tim Weiser had some explaining to do on the post-bracket announcement media conference call on Monday afternoon.

“If it were just a factor of RPI, my committee wouldn’t need to spend our holiday weekend in Indianapolis,” said Weiser in response to many media questions about the inclusion of St. Johns and the exclusion of LSU, who finished #9 in the strong SEC. Read the rest of this entry »

Florida wins 2011 SEC Championship

Third-seeded Florida (45-16) captured its first SEC Tournament Championship since 1991 with a 5-0 shutout of fourth-seeded Vanderbilt (47-10) on Sunday afternoon in front of 7,845 fans at Regions Park. It was the sixth SEC Tourney crown for the Gators, which previously brought home the hardware in 1981, 1982, 1984, 1988 and 1991. Read the rest of this entry »

Virginia wins 2011 ACC Championship

ACC Title Game – Virginia 7 vs. FSU 2

The top-seeded Virginia Cavaliers (49-8) swept their four games at the ACC baseball Tournament and claimed their third league title and second in the last three seasons with a 7 to 2 win over two-seeded Florida State. CBD Editorial: NCAA Needs To Rethink Timing Of Regional Hosts

Selection Monday is one of the biggest days on the college baseball calendar, but the biggest prize that the NCAA selection committee hands out actually is awarded the day before. A day before the NCAA reveals the Regionals, Super Regional match-ups and map to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, they announce the 16 teams that will host Regionals. That huge advantage is handed out to the teams that prove themselves worthy over the course of a long, grueling regular season.
