BYU vs New Mexico Suspensions Announced (VIDEO)
On Saturday afternoon, BYU and New Mexico were involved in an altercation in which both benches emptied and punches were thrown. The Mountain West Conference announced on Monday that eleven student athletes were suspended while BYU head baseball coach Vance Law was reprimanded over the incident. I wonder if the BYU Honor Code says anything about fighting in it and whether the Cougars players will face more discipline from the university. You can check out New Mexico catcher Mitchell Garver’s one finger salute below. We have also included video the brawl between the two schools and the full press release from the Mountain West Conference. Read the rest of this entry »

CBD Mid-Major Poll (April 25th)
By: Aaron Kirby
For the 3rd week in a row we have a new #1. TCU (29-11) is back at #1 after a impressive 4-0 week. The Horned Frogs picked a 4-2 mid week win over Texas A&M before sweeping a solid UNLV club in MWC play. However they learned this week that they will be without stud lefty Matt Purke for awhile with a shoulder injury. Read the rest of this entry »
Missouri Valley Conference Weekend Recap (April 22nd-24th)
By: John Lockwood
Pitching was the theme of this weekend’s MVC conference play, with several impressive performances and thrilling series being played across the Valley. In a highly anticipated match-up of last year’s conference championship, Wichita State took two of three from visiting Illinois State, getting two solid outings from their left-handed starters. In what was possibly the most exciting and tightly contested series played all season (every game was decided by one run), Southern Illinois upset the best team in the conference by taking two, on the road, from #29 Creighton—in the shiny new TD Ameritrade Ballpark. Possibly the best pitching came from the Bradley-Evansville series, where three pitchers tossed complete games—two of them shutouts. Meanwhile in Springfield, Missouri State took two of three from Indiana State in a series which saw Brock Chaffin knock in seven runs—in one game. Read the rest of this entry »
Conference USA Weekend Recap (April 22nd-24th)
By: John Lockwood
Four teams entered this weekend tied for first in Conference USA, but only the Golden Eagles of #24 Southern Miss (30-9, 9-3) remain atop the standings thanks to a three game sweep of Marshall (15-23, 2-10) in Hattiesburg. The biggest shock from this weekend’s conference play came from the Deep South, where UAB (23-17, 8-7) surprised #19 Rice (28-16, 9-6)—and the rest of CUSA—by taking both games of Saturday’s double-header to knock the Owls out of first. UCF (26-15, 6-9) won their first series since the opening week of conference play, by taking two from the CUSA’s best hitting team, Memphis (24-17, 7-5), on the road. Elsewhere in conference play, the NCAA’s best pitching team, East Carolina (27-13, 8-7) took two of three while visiting Houston (20-21, 7-5), and Tulane (23-17, 4-8) dropped two of three from visiting Mountain West foe Utah in their non-conference bye week.
