2011 CBD Mid-Major Poll (April 4th)

#1 Fresno St (20-3) stays atop the rankings for 5th week in a row after winning 2 of 3 vs San Fransico……. #2 TCU (18-9) also stays put with a 3-1 week.  TCU dropped a mid week game to Stephen F. Austin before sweeping Air Force in MWC play…………. Also not changing position was #3 Texas St (19-8). Texas St went 2-2 on week, after losing mid week to Mizzo, Texas St toook 2 of 3 from the 2nd place SLC club Stephen F. Austin to remain in 1st place by a game over SFA in the Southland. SEC Recap for April 3rd

Here is your SEC Recap for April 2nd.

#1 Vanderbilt 6 #30 Auburn 2

Auburn, Ala. – Top-ranked Vanderbilt used a late rally to beat Auburn 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Plainsman Park and finish off a sweep of the Tigers.

The Commodores jumped out to an early with two runs in the first inning just to see the Tigers rally for two runs in the fourth to tie the game. The game remained deadlocked until the Dores finally broke through in the seventh inning for four runs. Conrad Gregor’s bases loaded single put Vandy back on top but the Commodores were not finished. A wild pitch allowed Sam Lind to score from third, Anthony Gomez’s sacrifice fly plated the second run and Aaron Westlake’s RBI-single capped the rally. #2 Virginia 10 Virginia Tech 2

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia baseball team completed a three-game series sweep of Virginia Tech with a 10-2 triumph Sunday afternoon at English Field in Blacksburg. In outscoring the Hokies 37-8 in the series, Virginia ran its win streak to nine games and improved to 28-2 this season, including an 11-1 mark in ACC play. BLACKSBURG, Va. – Tyler Wilson (Sr., Midlothian, Va.) pitched seven shutout innings and David Coleman (Sr., Richmond, Va.) homered and drove in five runs as the top-ranked Virginia baseball team defeated Virginia Tech, 9-3, Saturday afternoon at English Field in Blacksburg. Dartmouth sweeps Doubleheader from Columbia

Columbia vs. Dartmouth – Game 1

Dartmouth started it with a homerun and ended it with a homerun.

The third and final homer of the game for the Big Green came off the bat of first baseman Jason Brooks on the first pitch of the day for Tim Giel. Columbia starting pitcher Pat Lowry had just left the game with a 4-3 lead and runners on first and second; but Giel grooved a fastball down the middle on his first release, setting up Brooks to poke one over the right centerfield wall. The three-run homer was all that Dartmouth needed to cap off its 6-4 win in game one of its doubleheader at Columbia on Saturday. Read the rest of this entry »

Here is your SEC Recap for April 1st.

#1 Vanderbilt 11 #30 Auburn 6

Auburn, Ala. – Top-ranked Vanderbilt posted a season-high 20 hits in an 11-6 win over Auburn Friday night at Plainsman Park.

The Commodores wasted no time scoring single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a three-run lead. However, the Dores stranded nine men on base through the first four innings, including the bases loaded twice. Auburn battled back to within a single run scoring two runs in the fifth. The VU offense then exploded in the sixth and seventh innings putting three runs on the board in the sixth and four more in the seventh to put the game away. Read the rest of this entry »

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The top-ranked Virginia baseball team scored 17 runs over a four-inning span to bounce back from an early deficit and trounce Virginia Tech, 18-3, Friday night at a frigid English Field in Blacksburg. The Cavaliers (26-2, 9-1 ACC) banged out 16 hits in their largest offensive output of the season and used strong pitching from Danny Hultzen (Jr., Bethesda, Md.) and Whit Mayberry (So., Alexandria, Va.) to cruise to their seventh straight win. Pac-10 Weekend Preview (April 1st-3rd)

#26 Oregon at #5 Arizona State

Oregon has turned their season around, minus a couple one run losses in a 4-game set with Wichita State last weekend.  The overall sense of worry on the Duck program has dissipated after they reeled off eight straight wins, but have their first real test in a while as they fly to Tempe to take on Arizona State.   Read the rest of this entry »
