ATLANTA – Virginia ace Danny Hultzen (Jr., Bethesda, Md.) out-dueled Georgia Tech phenom Mark Pope, and David Coleman (Sr., Richmond, Va.) hit a game-changing three-run home run in the seventh inning as the top-ranked Virginia baseball team rallied to defeat the No. 8 Yellow Jackets 6-2 Friday evening at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta. Cal Baseball Reinstated

The Cal Baseball program has been reinstated according to a press release posted by the University. The supporters of the program were able to raise about nine out of the ten million dollars necessary to save the program. You can check out the full press release from Cal below. Big 12 Weekend Preview (April 8th-10th)

Weekend four of Big 12 action features a pair of in-state rivalries in Texas. Lubbock plays host to Texas Tech and Texas A&M. The Aggies had their seven game conference streak snapped by Kansas State last weekend, while Texas Tech was swept in Norman. #8 Texas plays a pair of games in Waco against Baylor before moving the Sunday contest to Austin.  Read the rest of this entry »

SEC Weekend Preview (April 8th-10th)

The SEC enters their fourth weekend of action as this is also the first week of a Thursday night game on the ESPN family of networks. South Carolina took the first game on the network yesterday behind a great pitching performance from Michael Roth and four different players drove in a run for the Gamecocks as they cruised to the 4-0 victory. The rest of the SEC play will begin tonight with LSU visiting Arkansas, Florida at Mississippi State, Alabama at Vanderbilt, Georgia at Ole Miss and Auburn at Kentucky.  Read the rest of this entry »

ACC Weekend Preview (April 8th-10th)

The ACC enters the midpoint of the conference schedule this weekend with Florida State leading the Atlantic Division with a record of 8-4 with NC State in second place with a 5-7 record and Boston College in third place at 4-7. Clemson and Wake Forest are tied for fourth place at 4-8 while Maryland rounds out the division with a 2-10 record. The Coastal Division is led by Georgia Tech and Virginia with identical 11-1 marks. North Carolina is right on their heels with a 10-2 record in third place. Miami is a game behind the Tar Heels with a 9-3 record while Duke is 3-9 and Virginia Tech is at 1-11. Conference USA Weekend Preview (April 8th-10th)

Conference USA enters its third weekend of conference play with Houston atop the standings after a sweep of Tulane last weekend. Southern Miss sits in second place after a close loss to Mississippi State during the week, while Rice and UAB sit tied for third with conference records of 4-2. SEC Game of the Week Preview: South Carolina at Tennessee

The SEC starts tonight with their ESPN Game of the Week broadcasts for the 2011 season featuring the 2010 national champion South Carolina facing off against the University of Tennessee for a key three game SEC series. CBD Visit: Kansas hammers Missouri

Blake Brown led off the game for Missouri with a single. Then that was it.

Missouri failed to get another hit for the rest of the game in its 7-1 loss to Kansas Wednesday night. Most of the Tigers’ offensive struggles were due to Thomas Taylor, who had a career night at Kauffman Stadium, adding to his already impressive résumé at the Royals’ park. The Jayhawk struck out nine batters in six innings, allowing only one run. Eight of his first 10 outs recorded were strikeouts. In two career starts now at Kauffman Stadium, Taylor has allowed only one run in 11.2 innings, with a dominant 17 strikeouts. Read the rest of this entry »

#9 Florida State 10 Valdosta State 2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Redshirt freshman David Trexler earned his first career victory as No. 7 Florida State rolled past Valdosta State, 10-2 at Dick Howser Stadium.

In a pre-arranged controlled start, Trexler (1-0) tossed three innings of shutout baseball, surrendering only a pair of infield singles. The lanky right-hander established a new career high with four strikeouts in his second start and fifth appearance. He did not issue a walk. Read the rest of this entry »
