Boston College 5 #1 Virginia 4 (11 innings)

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior Anthony Melchionda hit a double in the bottom of the 11th that scored sophomore Matt McGovern from first to give the Boston College baseball team a 5-4 walk-off win against No. 1 Virginia Saturday afternoon at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.

The Eagles ended it quickly in the 11th inning as McGovern led off with a single. Melchionda took the first pitch of his at-bat deep to the gap in right, giving the speedy McGovern plenty of time to score the winning run from first.

McGovern’s single was his third hit of the game as he went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs. Junior Andrew Lawrence was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI and freshman Nate LaPointe hit a three-run homer, the first of his career.

#9 Florida State 2 #23 Miami (FL) 0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Hunter Scantling, Brian Busch and Daniel Bennett combined on a five-hit shutout at No. 8 Florida State secured its regular season series with a 2-0 victory over No. 14 Saturday night before a record crowd of 4,634 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

Backed by a flawless defensive effort, the host Hurricanes were unable to even the series against the trio. Miami stranded 11 baserunners. It was FSU’s first shutout win over Miami since a 12-0 victory on April 27, 2003 in Tallahassee and the first on the Hurricanes’ home field since April 23, 1993 (1-0).

Florida State (33-10, 16-7 ACC) not only extended its season-best winning streak to nine games, but opened up a four-game lead over second place Clemson in the ACC Atlantic Division with six league games remaining.

#13 Georgia Tech 5 #18 Clemson 1

CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior Jed Bradley tossed his first career complete-game, allowing just one unearned run in No. 9 Georgia Tech’s 5-1 win over No. 18 Clemson Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Yellow Jackets (31-13, 18-5 ACC) evened the series with the Tigers (28-15, 12-11 ACC).

Bradley (5-2) scattered seven hits over the nine frames en route to his fifth win of the season. The left-hander retired 11 straight batters at one point in the game, and worked 1-2-3 innings in the second, third, fourth and the ninth.

“It was just a great game all-around,” Bradley said. “I was able to go out and save some bullpen arms for the game tomorrow so we can have everyone ready. I just wanted to go out and attack the strike zone, get a bunch of ground balls and I did. They were swinging [at my fastball] and couldn’t hit it, so I just kept throwing it.”

NC State 9 Maryland 5

RALEIGH, N.C. — Rob Chamra allowed three runs in eight innings Saturday, and Matt Bergquist homered twice and drove in three runs to pace NC State past Maryland 9-5 in the second game of a three-game series at Doak Field at Dail Park.

NC State and Maryland have split the first two games of the series. The Wolfpack now is 25-19 overall and 10-13 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Terrapins are 20-26 and 5-18.

Virginia Tech 6 Duke 5 (10 innings)

DURHAM, N.C. – It took extra innings – and even an extra-long umpire discussion – but Virginia Tech won its seventh ACC road game of the season with a 6-5 victory over Duke Saturday afternoon at Bulls Athletic Park.

Tech, who improved to 25-20 overall and 8-15 in league play, is now 7-7 on the road in the conference. It marks the most wins on the road for the Hokies since joining the ACC, and they are now 2-0 in extra inning games this season. Duke dropped to 21-25, 5-18 with the loss.

The Hokies scored their go-ahead run in the top of the 10th thanks to Andrew Rashand a professional umpiring crew. Rash singled to lead off the frame, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tony Balisteri, took third on a grounder by Matt Blowand was still on third after Chad Morgan drew a walk.
