  • Heading into the season, it was clear that the UCLA Bruins had the best 1-2 punch in the country with Gerrit Cole being the number 1 while Trevor Bauer was an excellent number 2. Cole was lit up on Thursday night by the Stanford Cardinal for six runs in 6.1 innings while giving up nine hits and striking out one as the Cardinal picked up the 7-4 win. Things would change though on Friday as Trevor Bauer tied a career high with 17 strikeouts while pitching a complete game letting up one run on four hits as the Bruins won 4-1. Bauer has now struck out 127 batters in 82.2 innings of work on the year. He has also held opponents to a batting average of .145 against. Hopefully Cole returns to form and the two of them can lead the Bruins back to the CWS.
  • LSU dropped another game to open up their SEC series against Vanderbilt by a score of 11-3. LSU got a terrible start from Kurt McCune who gave up five runs in the first inning before settling down to give up eight runs in 3.2 innings of work. Vanderbilt starting pitcher Sonny Gray was solid  giving up three runs in seven innings of work while upping his record to 8-2 on the year.
  • One of the craziest boxscores of the day was the Maryland Eastern-Shore and Florida A&M game. Both teams committed seven errors while UMES picked up the 10-7 win.
  • The other crazy boxscore from the night took place between Central Arkansas and UT-Arlington. The Mavericks picked up a 18-14 win in game 1 of their doubleheader. They scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to turn a 14-12 Central Arkansas deficit into a 18-14 lead which they were able to hold onto.
  • I personally took in the Georgetown and UConn doubleheader down in New Britain, CT as the Huskies picked up a 14-2 and 6-3 win over the Hoyas. Greg Nappo was outstanding in the first game of the doubleheader giving up three hits and  a run which moved his record to 5-2 on the year. In the second game, Brian Ward was solid through five innings before tiring as he pitched 5.1 inning giving up six hits and allowing three runs. We were able to catch up to Greg Nappo in between games of the doubleheader that you can watch below.

Hey Fat Boy Foley, why won’t the University of No Hardware (UNH) upgrade its football team to the MAC? They might get 20K fans if they do instead of the 75 they get now.
