#10 Florida State 6 Florida Gulf Coast 4

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – It took Tyler Everett an inning to get a handle on his emotions Wednesday night, but the Florida State senior pitcher wasn’t alone on an emotionally memorable night at Dick Howser Stadium.

Florida State’s second ALS Awareness Night was bit more emotional, especially for Everett, who took the ball from his wheelchair-bound father Jimmy Everett, who is suffering from what is commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Everett gave up a run on three hits in the first, but settled down with the help of his teammates, as the 10th-ranked Seminoles escaped with a 6-4 victory over Florida Gulf Coast.

“That’s a tough game to play,” said FSU coach Mike Martin, who was Jimmy Everett’s high school basketball coach. “There’s so much meaning. … It makes you look back on your life.

#21 Clemson 5 Georgia 2

Athens, GA – Brad Miller hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Justin Sarratt tossed 6.0 solid innings to lead Clemson to a 5-2 victory over Georgia in front of 2,297 fans at Foley Field on Wednesday night. The Tigers, who won the home-and-home season series 2-0, won their fifth game in a row and improved to 23-13 overall. The Bulldogs dropped to 19-19 overall.

Miller’s first home run of the year in the first inning was all the scoring the Tigers would need, as Sarratt and four other Tiger pitchers combined to limit the Bulldogs to nine hits, two runs (one earned), and no walks with seven strikeouts.

Sarratt (3-1) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing six hits, one run, and no walks with three strikeouts to earn the win. David Haselden, Joseph Moorefield, Jonathan Meyer, and Scott Weismann combined to pitch the final 3.0 innings to close out the game. Weismann struck out the only batter he faced to record his first save of the season.

#30 Miami FL 5 Bethune-Cookman 3

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Behind yet another display of power, and the continued excellence of Steven Ewing, the No. 20 University of Miami baseball team won its 10th contest in the last 11 tries, defeating visiting Bethune-Cookman University, 5-3, Wednesday evening at Alex Rodriguez Park.

Miami (25-12) – tuning up for three of their next four weekend series against top-ten opponents – used its third three-run home run game of the season, continued with solid pitching, to down the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman (22-19) in their only meeting this season.

Bethune-Cookman took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. UMiami sophomore starter Steven Ewing, who has not allowed more than two earned runs in his last eight starts, settled down and allowed just four hits over the remaining six innings to collect the win.

Penn State 4 Maryland 2

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State baseball team roped five doubles, including three that plated runs, as the Nittany Lions continued their homestand with a 4-2 victory over ACC foe Maryland on a beautiful Wednesday evening at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Michael Glantz tallied two doubles and knocked in a pair to lead Penn State (22-12). Joey DeBernardis also went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Their efforts supported a strong pitching performance by Neal Herring as the sophomore tossed 4.1 pristine innings of relief to keep Maryland (17-22) in check.

Before Herring took the hill, Penn State also benefited from a nice effort from starter Mike Franklin. After retiring the Terps quickly in the first, he worked out of a tight jam in the second to quiet the Maryland attack. The visitors had the makings of a rally after the first two batters reached base. Despite the threat, Franklin looked sharp. Mixing a nice array of pitches, he sent the next three Terps down swinging to keep the squad off the board,
