#10 Florida State 13 Florida Gulf Coast 2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With a workmanlike effort that pleased its coach, 10th-ranked Florida State came out quickly and finished fast in Tuesday night’s 13-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast.

Junior pitcher Gary Merians set the tone with four solid innings for the win in a controlled start and the Seminoles wasted no time providing some run support. FSU bolted to a 4-1 lead after two innings and was never threatened.

“I thought our pitching was pretty good tonight and when you don’t make an error, you certainly feel good,” FSU coach Mike Martin said. “We were able to get a lot of guys in the ball game – we haven’t had a game like this in a long time.”

NC State 3 Campbell 2

RALEIGH, N.C. — Andrew Ciencin’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Chris Diaz with the winning run as NC State defeated Campbell 3-2 in non-conference baseball action at Doak Field at Dail Park.

Diaz got the ninth-inning rally started with an infield single, and Campbell reliever Matt Marskberry (1-3) hit Brett Williams with a pitch to put runners on first and second with one away.

Marskberry struck out John Gianis for the second out of the inning, but Pratt Maynard beat out a ground ball to first baseman Josh Holskey on a close play at the bag to load the bases for Ciencin, who drove a 2-1 pitch just short of the warning track in left-center field. Left fielder Jimmy Brenneman got a good break on the ball, but missed making a diving catch by a few feet.

Wake Forest 9 Winthrop 8 (11 innings)

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In his first at bat of the season, Austin Stadler drove in Conor Keniry from third base in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Wake Forest a 9-8 win over Winthrop Tuesday night at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.

Keniry reached on a fielder’s choice and moved to third on a one-out single up the middle by Steven Brooks. After Brooks stole second to base to take the double play away, Stadler hit a hard grounder to first baseman Matt Lobacz. Lobacz fielded the ball cleanly and threw home, but Keniry was running on contact and slid home as the throw bounced just before reaching the catcher.

The win gives Wake Forest a 15-23 record and ties the season series after Winthrop won an extra inning game last Wednesday over the Deacons 6-5. The Eagles are now 18-20 on the year.
