DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 14th year with its 2011 weekly surveys. Polls will be circulated from Feb. 21-June 28 following the 65th annual NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb., at the new TD Ameritade Stadium.

To date, TCU, UCLA, Florida, Vanderbilt, and Virginia have held the No. 1 NCBWA rankings in ’11.
The poll voters come from 40 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. This week’s poll has representation by 11 different conferences among the 300 baseball-playing schools in the 2010 NCAA Division I ranks, and there have been 16 circuits in the early surveys this season. Last year there also were 16 different leagues (from 30 in NCAA Division I) among the Top 30 polls. For more information or to join the NCBWA, please go to www.ncbwa.com.

Whoever does this poll is a joke. Oregon State is 8-1 in the PAC-10 having swept the #6 ASU team and #23 Stanford team in this poll. They haven’t lost a weekend series all year and are something like 9-1 against top 25 teams (ranked when we played them). To have OSU at 15 and ASU at 6 is flat out wrong. If you look at their resume against the resume of at least 6-8 teams ahead of them an argument can be made that they should easily be in the top 10 if not potentially in the top 7. By the way I think you have Fresno State not high enough either.

We don’t do the poll but are members of the NCBWA though.

Good to know. I thought writers did research on their subjects. I guess ours and Fresno States marketing departments aren’t as good as some of the historic baseball powerhouses are or else this wouldn’t be out of whack like it is. Having ASU at 6 and OSU at 15 is pathetic. If anything they should be swapped. Hopefully the other writers realize their mistake and rectify it on the next poll. We’ll see though.
