We have a new #1 for week 9. Troy (25-6) moves into the top spot after a 3-1 week where they beat Auburn 14-6 mid week before taking 2 of 3 from FIU in Sunbelt play. The Trojans leaped over the 2 mainstays at #1 and #2 for most the year…….Fresno St (22-5) slides down one spot to #2 after splitting 4 games at San Jose St……….TCU (22-10) also drops down one spot to #3 going 4-1 on week. TCU won 2 games vs Texas-Pan American during week and won 2 of 3 from New Mexico.

Stetson (25-7) continues its dominance of the ASUN this year and moves up 3 spots to #4 with sweep of Kennesaw St…….Charlotte (26-6) also is dominating its conference. The 49ers move up 1 spot to #5 with another A-10 sweep of St Josephs moving to 8-1 in league.

Texas St (20-11) slides 5 spot to #8 after a rough week in Arkansas. The Bobcats blew a late lead on Wednesday and lost 6-5 at Arkansas then dropped 2 of 3 at Central Arkansas.

SE Louisiana (22-11) moves up 3 spots to #10 after a very nice 3-1 week. The Lions picked up mid week win over South Alabama then took a big road series at UTA. Setting up HUGE Southland series next week at Texas St.

College of Charleston (21-11) drops 3 spots to #12 after a 2-2 week. CofC got a nice win at UNCW during the week but travel across town to The Citadel for SOCON play and dropped the first 2 games before salavaging 1 game on Sunday. On Saturday CofC put up 14 runs on 23 hits and still lost 17-14. Not much pitching involved in that one……Fellow SOCON club Georgia Southern (19-13) also dropped 3 spots to #17. The Eagles lost to instate Mercer at home on Wednesday before traveling to Marshall and splitting 2 games on Sunday, getting rained out on Friday and Saturday……..Staying in the SOCON, Samford (21-13) dropped 4 spots to #24 after a 2-2 week. The Bulldogs picked up big win over Alabama mid week but traveled to WCU and dropped the first 2 games before winning 11-6 on Sunday.

Jacksonville (20-12) made the biggest jump of the week, jumping 7 spots to #18 after a 3-1 week. The Dolphins did lose a mid week game to South Florida but then went to Mercer and swept them. The big jump was a combination of the very good sweep and the lack of good weeks from clubs in front of them.

3 new clubs joined the top 25 this week that meant 3 teams had to fall out. #21 Mercer (22-13) had a rough week going 1-4. Dropping game to Georgia St on Tuesday and picked up win on Wednesday at Georgia Southern. But to a punch to the chin this weekend when Jacksonville came to Macon and swept all 3 games………The next 2 clubs #23 Stony Brook (19-8) and #24 UNLV (21-12) were the other 2 casualties. Stony Brook went 3-2 on week dropping game to Iona and taking 3 of 4 from Maine and UNLV went 2-2 on week losing to Cal St Northridge and winning 2 of 3 from Sacred Heart. Neither team had a “bad” week but 2 other clubs had better weeks and need to be in.

Kent St (20-10) gets back into top 25 after few weeks out at #20 after a 5-0 week. Kent St picked up to big mid week games at Penn St and vs Pittsburgh before sweeping a good E. Michigan club in MAC play. By the way they have one of the best pitchers in the country, lefty Andrew Chafin. On Friday he went 8.2 innings 7 hits 2 runs 1 earned 0 BB 13 Ks………Also getting back in the top 25 is Western Kentucky (20-12) at #22. WKU pounded rival Louisville 15-5 on Tuesday before taking 2 of 3 from Louisiana in Sunbelt play………Gonzaga (19-9-1) finally gets in the poll at #25 after going 3-1 on week. Gonzaga dropped mid week game to Washington St before sweeping San Diego. Gonzaga is 14-2-1 over its last 17 games including sweeps of UC-Irvine, New Mexico and San Diego.

One club that deserves a little mention is Rider (19-10). The Broncs improved to 8-1 in MAAC after going on the road and sweeping a very solid Marist (21-9) club.

Elon is #8 not sure where the poll is?

how is charlotte 5th? They should be embarrassed by the schdule they put together. 26-6 with an RPI in the 90s. Don’t reward Charlotte for playing cupcakes, when there are teams like Coastal, Elon & Charleston that aren’t afraid to take on anyone. If they endup not winning their conference and take an at large bid it would a shame….i had to get that off my chest.

RSN April 12, 2011 - 2:25 am

Well its hard to drop them each week when they win every week. I dont think they will get an atlarge bid either. Their only big games left come in last weekend of the year when they go to Dallas Baptist. From here on out if they go 2-2 during the week they will most likely fall down. The reason they keep going up is other teams in front of them keep losing to teams they should not. Charlotte should only lose 2 or 3 more games until they play at Dallas Baptist. They could just as easy win all the games with their schedule. nnThey will learn the hard way they better play alot harder schedule. Just ask CofC what happens when you play cupcake schedules. They have really stepped up in the scheduling department over the last 2-3 years.

Umm…Charlotte did beat UNC a couple of weeks ago and brought Missouri in. Not the 49ers fault the Tigers have struggled.rnSent on the Sprintu00ae Now Network from my BlackBerryu00ae

Along with that bruttal A-10 schedule they “brought in” Coppin State, UNC-Asheville, Tennessee Tech, Ball State & Harvard. They did go on the road to take on North Carolina Central and USC Upstate, qualities wins… if your a high school team. They keep winning because they dont play anybody. The likes of Coastal, Elon, & Charleston would have 30 wins playing that schedule.

Rhode Island is a solid squad also!rnrnI don’t think many teams want to go to Charlotte though as it is a very tough place to win and the place sells out for the bigger opponents. I don’t think Charlotte has the money that other schools have to give out guarantees like LSU and South Carolina can give out!rnSent on the Sprintu00ae Now Network from my BlackBerryu00ae

Dont think you can lump CofC in the same scheduling group as Coastal and Elon. Since your name is SoConforlife i suspect you are a CofC fan. Their schedule is not that great either. Like i said before its alot better then what it used to be but its not on same level as Coastals and Elons. nnElon always plays the best schedule in SOCON and that is why they have been in a regional the last 3-4 years with atlarge bids. And Coastal brings in great group for 2 or 3 tourneys and usually travels for a big series. nnLike Brian said they did bring in Mizzo and they have played UNC twice beating them a couple weeks ago. They dont lose games they shouldnt either very much. But they could schedule alot better i definetly agree with that. WCU usually plays them twice a year but they wouldnt play this year i think. Heck you have WCU, Elon, NC St, UNCW, ECU, SC, Coastal, Clemson, Citadel, CofC and im probalby missing some but there is a ton of schools they could play mid week. I agree they play a BAD schedule. nnFrom teams ranked about #5 all the way to #20-25 there is not much difference. Fresno St, TCU, Troy and Stetson are the class of the “mid-majors” this year are ahead of the rest.
