Roughly one half of the way through the season, and there are a few players starting to distance themselves from the pack already. We compiled a list of the best players at their respective positions, and surprisingly discovered that only four players were on our Preseason All-Big 12 team. The midseason team features a pair of freshmen (David Paiz and Corey Knebel) and three transfers (Zach Johnson, Kelby Tomlinson, and Evan Mistich) among the returning veterans.

C – Dane Phillips (Oklahoma State)
1B – Zach Johnson (Oklahoma State)
2B – Jamodrick McGruder (Texas Tech)
SS – Kelby Tomlinson (Texas Tech) Newcomer of the Year
3B – Garrett Buechele (Oklahoma)* Player of the Year
LF – Nick Martini (Kansas State)*
CF – Brooks Pinckard (Baylor)*
RF – Kash Kalkowski (Nebraska)
DH – Evan Mistich (Oklahoma)
UT – David Paiz (Texas Tech)

SP – Taylor Jungmann (Texas)* Pitcher of the Year
SP – Michael Wacha (Texas A&M)
SP – Michael Rocha (Oklahoma)
RP – Corey Knebel (Texas)
RP – Ross Stripling (Texas A&M)

*Player was on CBD Preseason All-Big 12 Team

Not sure how you leave out Nebraska’s Cody Asche. Tied for 2nd in HR, 4th in hits, tied for 1st in Runs, 1st in Doubles, 2nd in RBIs, 1st total bases and slugging %. Strong canidate for Buechele’s spot but should be the DH at the least

From William Knox:nnI just want to reply that the team was based on position, and Asche isn’t going to beat out the triple crown leader and isn’t qualified to be the DH since he is primarily 3B
