#1 Vanderbilt 6 #30 Auburn 2

Auburn, Ala. – Top-ranked Vanderbilt used a late rally to beat Auburn 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Plainsman Park and finish off a sweep of the Tigers.

The Commodores jumped out to an early with two runs in the first inning just to see the Tigers rally for two runs in the fourth to tie the game. The game remained deadlocked until the Dores finally broke through in the seventh inning for four runs. Conrad Gregor’s bases loaded single put Vandy back on top but the Commodores were not finished. A wild pitch allowed Sam Lind to score from third, Anthony Gomez’s sacrifice fly plated the second run and Aaron Westlake’s RBI-single capped the rally. Three Vanderbilt relievers did the rest keeping Auburn off the scoreboard.

#3 South Carolina 4  Kentucky 1

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina freshman right-hander Forrest Koumas pitched a career-high 6.1 scoreless innings and was backed by an offense that featured a 3-for-3 day at the plate for Peter Mooney and a two-RBI day for Christian Walker as the third ranked Gamecocks defeated Kentucky 4-1 to sweep a three-game SEC baseball series. Carolina is now 22-5 and 7-2 in the SEC while the loss drops Kentucky to 15-14 and 2-7 in league play.

Koumas, who spent three days in the hospital earlier in the week due to an allergic reaction, was effective in his second career start as he limited the Wildcats to just two hits and one walk while striking out three batters. He is now 3-0 on the year. Kentucky starting pitcher Taylor Rogers suffered the loss and is now 2-3 for the season. He allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Gamecock left-hander Bryan Harper came on in relief and earned his first save as a Gamecock with a strikeout to end the game with the bases loaded.

#4 Florida 9 Tennessee 1

No. 3 Florida (24-5/7-2 SEC) broke open a 1-0 game with three runs in the sixth and five in the seventh to post a 9-1 victory over Tennessee (19-9/2-7 SEC) to complete a three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon in front of 4,121 fans at McKethan Stadium. The Gators allowed three runs in the series and limited the Vols to a .160 (15-for-94) batting average, while hitting .361 (35-for-97) and totaling 23 runs. UF has now taken eight of the last nine meetings between the Eastern Division rivals, including consecutive sweeps in Gainesville.

Freshman right-hander Karsten Whitson (Chipley, Fla.) (4-0) picked up his first SEC win with five scoreless innings in which he permitted five hits, registered six strikeouts and issued three walks. Junior Tommy Toledo (Tampa, Fla.) came in with runners on second and third and none out with UF clinging to a 1-0 lead in the sixth and kept Tennessee off the scoreboard. He was followed to the mound by junior Nick Maronde (Lexington, Ky.) who retired all five batters he faced. The Vols avoided their second shutout of the weekend with a two-out, pinch-hit RBI single by senior Tyler Horne in the ninth inning.

#13 Arkansas 4 #24 Alabama 3

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Arkansas jumped out to a 4-2 lead and the Razorback bullpen threw 5.2 innings of scoreless baseball to lift Arkansas to a 4-3 win in the series finale over No. 25 Alabama on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

The Razorbacks are now 19-8 overall and 3-6 in Southeastern Conference play. Alabama, which took two of three games in the series, drops to 21-9 and 7-2 in the SEC.

The Arkansas bullpen was the story of the game, holding the Alabama offense scoreless over the final 5.2 innings to preserve a 4-3 win.Trent Daniel and Nolan Sanburn combined to give up just one hit in a scoreless 5.2 innings. Daniel earned his first collegiate win, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up just a hit with one strikeout. Sanburn earned his third save of the season, pitching two hitless innings.

#16 LSU 8 Ole Miss 2

BATON ROUGE — LSU senior Ben Alsup fired eight strong innings, and centerfielder Mikie Mahtook and second baseman JaCoby Jones each delivered two hits and two RBI to lead the 16th-ranked Tigers (20-8, 3-6 SEC) to an 8-2 victory over Ole Miss in the rubber match Sunday at Alex Box Stadium.

Ole Miss dropped to 19-10 overall and 4-5 in Southeastern Conference play with the loss.

Alsup’s eight-inning effort was a career-high game total as the right-hander improved to 4-3 on the season. He limited the Rebels to only two runs off eight hits and two walks and struck out four.

Georgia 4 Mississippi State 1

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia completed an SEC sweep over 24th-ranked Mississippi State Sunday, posting a 4-1 victory in front of a crowd of 2,502 at Foley Field.

Georgia (14-14, 6-3 SEC) capped a stretch of 11 consecutive games against ranked opponents Sunday, going 6-5 and evened their overall record at 14-14. Eighteen of Georgia’s games this year have been against ranked teams, and they are 9-9 in those contests.

Mississippi State (19-9, 4-5 SEC) got on the board first in the second inning when Jonathan Ogden scored on a sacrifice ground out from Adam Frazier which put State ahead 1-0. Georgia pitcher Craig Gullickson (3-1) was able to fight out of a jam in the third inning, getting a ground out and a strikeout with runners on second and third to end the inning, keeping the score at 1-0. Georgia designated hitter Brett DeLoach put the Bulldogs out in front with his second home run of the series, a two-run shot to make it 2-1. Cone was on board after drawing a walk from Nick Routt. The left-hander dropped to 0-1, leaving with one out in the fourth after surrendering two runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
