2011 CBD Mid-Major Poll (April 4th)

#1 Fresno St (20-3) stays atop the rankings for 5th week in a row after winning 2 of 3 vs San Fransico……. #2 TCU (18-9) also stays put with a 3-1 week.  TCU dropped a mid week game to Stephen F. Austin before sweeping Air Force in MWC play…………. Also not changing position was #3 Texas St (19-8). Texas St went 2-2 on week, after losing mid week to Mizzo, Texas St toook 2 of 3 from the 2nd place SLC club Stephen F. Austin to remain in 1st place by a game over SFA in the Southland.

Troy (22-5) enters the top five moving up 2 spots to #4 after a 3-1 week. Troy dropped a mid week game to Auburn before going to Arkansas St and sweeping them. With the sweep the Trojans improved to 8-1 in Sun Belt, 2 games ahead of 2nd place WKU and Louisiana………Louisville (18-9) moves up 2 spots to #5 going 3-1 on week.  Louisville beat Western Kentucky 3-1 mid week and took 2 of 3 from West Virginia in Big East play.

Charlotte (23-6) climbs 3 spots to #6 after another perfect 4-0 week.  Charlotte got a huge 4-3 win over UNC on Tuesday before sweeping Xavier in A-10 play.

2 clubs dropped out of the top 5 this week.  Stetson (22-7) drops 3 spots to #7 after a 2-2 week.  The Haters dropped a big in state game at UCF on Tuesday and then lost Fridays A-Sun opener at USC-Upstate but were able to rebound and sweep the double header on Saturday……….Elon (18-11) also dropped 3 spots to #8. The Phoenix traveled to UNCG in SOCON play and lost 2 of 3.  Elon won 1-0 on Friday for their only win on weekend.  UNCG is off to a very good start in SOCON play by the way at 8-4.

College of Charleston (19-9) moved up 2 spots and got back in the top 10 at #9. CofC had been in a little funk the 2 previous weeks but got back on track sweeping Western Carolina in SOCON play.  The Cougars took their frustration out on the Catamounts on Saturday and Sunday winning 15-8 and 15-3………….Coastal Carolina (18-10) moved up 2 spots to #11 getting back on track this week sweeping Liberty in a huge Big South series.  It was a much needed series win for Coastal after dropping their opening Big South series at UNCA last week.  Coastal is not ready to give up the Big South crown just yet.

Cal St Bakersfield (20-7) moves up 2 spots and joins the top 10 at #10. The Roadrunners went on the road this week and took 2 of 3 at Santa Clara.  Cal St Bakersfield is certainly making a strong statement for an at-large bid this year.  Looking to be first Independent since Dallas Baptist in 2008 to grab a bid.

Wichita St (18-11) dropped 4 spots to #12 after traveling to the island and losing 3 of 4 to Hawaii.

SE Louisiana (19-10) heads back in the right direction, moving up 2 spots to #13 after a 4-1 week.  The Lions picked up mid week wins over Southern and New Orleans before taking 2 of 3 from Lamar in SLC play……….Georgia Southern (18-11) also moves up 2 spots to #14 after a 3-1 week.  GSU lost 4-2 at Jacksonville mid week before sweeping The Citadel in SOCON play.  With the sweep and Elon’s loses GSU moves into first place tie with Elon.  GSU’s Sophmore OF Victor Roache made strong statement for national player of the week after going 11-18, 10 runs, 6 HR and 13 RBI in the 4 games this week including 3 HRs on Saturday and 2 more on Sunday vs Citadel.

San Jose St (19-8) moves up 1 spot to #15 after going 5-2 on week.  Yes thats right 7 games this past week, 1-1 at UC Davis, 2-0 vs Brown and 2-1 at UC Santa Barbara.

Flordia Atlantic (17-11), fell 6 spots to #16, continued its roller coaster ride this year going 1-3 on week.  FAU picked up win vs Bethune-Cookman before going to Louisiana and getting swept………..Pittsburgh (15-10) fell 3 spots to #17 after a 2-2 week. Pitt lost to Ohio during week before winning 2 of 3 vs Notre Dame in conference play.

Florida International (18-12) jumps up 2 spots to #18 after going to Tulane and winning 6-1 on Wednesday and taking 2 of 3 at Louisiana-Monroe in Sun Belt play……….Samford (19-11) slides up 2 spots to #20 with a 3-1 week.  Samford beat a pretty darn good Jacksonville St club during the week before winning SOCON series vs Davidson.

3 teams dropped out of the top 25 this week.  #18 Western Kentucky (17-11) falls all the way out after going 1-4 on the week.  WKU dropped mid week games at Louisville and at home vs Belmont.  Then in Sun Belt play lost 2 of 3 at Arkansas Little Rock.  The Hilltoppers are still tied for 2nd in Sun Belt even with the series loss………. #21 Texas A&M CC (20-11) extended their win streak to 8 games with mid week win vs Houston Baptist but started another streak on weekend getting swept at UTSA dropping them out of top 25…….. #25 UT-Arlington (15-13) drops out after a 1-3 week.  UTA lost at home 7-4 in 10 innings to Texas A&M on Wednesday then lost 2 of 3 at Nicholls St.

3 teams dropping out means we have 3 new teams this week.  Mercer (21-9) finally gets in the top 25 at #21.  Mercer went 4-0 this week including going to Georgia Tech and snapping their 16 game win streak with a 4-2 win on Tuesday then sweeping Cambell on road in A-Sun play……..Louisiana (16-11) jumps back in the top 25 at #22 after an impressive 4-0 week which saw the Ragin’ Cajuns beat Northwestern St on Tuesday and sweep Flordia Atlantic in Sun Belt play………Jacksonville (17-11) breaks in at #25 with a 3-1 week.  Jacksonville picked up a big 4-2 mid week win over Georgia Southern and won 2 of 3 at Belmont in A-Sun play.

SFA needs a look. Went 1-2 against Tx State, but Sat game could have gone the other way. Beat TCU on Tuesday before Tx State series.

Stephen F Austin is definetly high on the bubble list thats for sure. They would have been in with out a doubt but cant join top 25 after losing weekend series and going 2-2 on week. 21-9 and 2nd in SLC is very solid
