2011 Johnny Bench Award Watch List

March 10, 2011- The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission released the Watch List for the 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John’s Pizza.
Forty-two catchers were nominated for the award by their coaches. Because the award is given annually to the top division one catcher, the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 6, 2011. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 NCAA Regional Projections (March 9th)
College Baseball Daily continues our weekly countdown to the release of the 2011 NCAA Baseball Regional Brackets. The brackets are done as if the NCAA Tournament was set to begin today. CBD Journal with Western Illinois for March 8th
Even though it was a rough weekend for the Leathernecks at Kansas State, we are starting to see some improvements in certain areas. Tom Lilja ignited the offense with two homeruns in two games, and Ryan Cowhey also added a 3-run shot of his own. Just because the win/loss column is not how we would like it at this point of the season, we are confident that our pitching performances will remain steady and our bats will start to come alive. Is Bat Warming the new “Bat Rolling”?
The last two years the story around college baseball was about the composite bats and how certain schools were rolling the bats to get more power out of the bat. On Sunday, when the South Carolina Gamecocks visited Clemson, South Carolina’s Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a homer in the first inning. Clemson catcher Spencer Kieboom picked up the bat as Bradley Jr. was rounding the bases where he recognized that the bat was hot to touch. Clemson head coach Jack Leggett came out to question the bat with home plate umpire Randy Harvey, who is a veteran in the industry. After a brief discussion, Bradley Jr. and the Gamecocks were allowed to continue to use the bat. Read the rest of this entry »
