March 10, 2011- The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission released the Watch List for the 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John’s Pizza.
Forty-two catchers were nominated for the award by their coaches. Because the award is given annually to the top division one catcher, the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 6, 2011. Read the rest of this entry »
I was able to attend four games this weekend at the USD Tournament, held at Tony Gwynn Stadium at San Diego State. I got to see Oklahoma, Cal, UCONN, and San Diego State all in action twice. The NCAA has ruled Nebraska freshman LHP Logan Ehlers ineligible until April 12th for violations related to an advisor he retained after being selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 8th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. Read the rest of this entry »
College Baseball Daily continues our weekly countdown to the release of the 2011 NCAA Baseball Regional Brackets. The brackets are done as if the NCAA Tournament was set to begin today. The projections are done through games played on Tuesday. You can check out the full bracket below which is our best estimate if the tournament started today.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – South Carolina scored five runs in their final two at-bats and held off a furious Clemson rally in the ninth to earn a 5-4 victory in the Reedy River Rivalry game before a crowd of 7,125 at Fluor Field on Tuesday night.
Clemson RHP Kevin Brady will miss the next two weeks according to an article by Travis Haney of The Post and Courier. He suffered a strained forearm when warming up for the fifth inning during Sunday’s game against South Carolina. Read the rest of this entry »
This week is Spring Break at Vandy, so I figured there is no better time to have a guest blogger—and somehow, Anthony Gomez talked me into letting him do it. “Go-Go” Gomez is a sophomore infielder from Nutley, New Jersey. Even though he is one of my best friends, I still feel the need to apologize for whatever Jersey Shore fist-pumping he may put into it. Even though it was a rough weekend for the Leathernecks at Kansas State, we are starting to see some improvements in certain areas. Tom Lilja ignited the offense with two homeruns in two games, and Ryan Cowhey also added a 3-run shot of his own. Just because the win/loss column is not how we would like it at this point of the season, we are confident that our pitching performances will remain steady and our bats will start to come alive. The last two years the story around college baseball was about the composite bats and how certain schools were rolling the bats to get more power out of the bat. On Sunday, when the South Carolina Gamecocks visited Clemson, South Carolina’s Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a homer in the first inning. Clemson catcher Spencer Kieboom picked up the bat as Bradley Jr. was rounding the bases where he recognized that the bat was hot to touch. Clemson head coach Jack Leggett came out to question the bat with home plate umpire Randy Harvey, who is a veteran in the industry. After a brief discussion, Bradley Jr. and the Gamecocks were allowed to continue to use the bat. Read the rest of this entry »
