Mississippi State 9 #1 Vanderbilt 8

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A go-ahead RBI-single by C.T. Bradford capped a five-run eighth inning as Mississippi State rallied to stun No. 2 Vanderbilt 9-8 in a Southeastern Conference baseball game played Sunday afternoon at Hawkins Field.

After being shut out in the first two games of the series, the Bulldogs salvaged the finale in the opening series of conference play. MSU snapped a 12-game VU win streak in the series and a 12-game win streak for the 2011 Commodores. Read the rest of this entry »

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sunday is the first day of a new week, but it was also the end of the longest of weeks for the fourth-ranked Florida State baseball team.

CHARLOTTESVILLE - The No. 5 Virginia Cavaliers won their second consecutive 11-inning game over No. 4 Florida State, winning 5-4 Saturday afternoon in front of 3,884 fans at Davenport Field. Jared King (Jr., Radford, Va.) led off the bottom of the 11th inning with a walk-off homer to left, giving Virginia (19-1, 5-0 ACC) its 13th consecutive victory. #1 Vanderbilt 10 Mississippi State 0

Nashville, Tenn, – Vanderbilt opened Southeastern Conference play with a 10-0 win over Mississippi State Friday night at Hawkins Field.

Sonny Gray dominated over 7.1 innings to earn his fifth win of the year. The junior right-hander fanned 10 Bulldogs, scattered four hits and walked four in his fifth start of the year. He worked into eighth striking out his final batter of the night before turning it over to the bullpen. Corey Williams and T.J. Pecoraro finished off the Dores’ second shutout of the year. SEC Weekend Preview (March 18th-20th)

The SEC opens up conference play this weekend with four schools ranked in the top seven in the country led by number 1 ranked Vanderbilt. The biggest series of the weekend features the number 2 ranked Florida Gators visiting number 7 ranked LSU. The other weekend matchups sees Georgia going to number six ranked South Carolina, eleventh ranked Arkansas visiting 26th ranked Auburn, Alabama going to Ole Miss, and Tennessee visiting the Kentucky Wildcats.  Read the rest of this entry »

ACC Weekend Preview for March 18th-20th

The ACC enters their second weekend of conference play with the Florida State Seminoles leading the Atlantic Division with a 3-0 record after sweeping Boston College. Wake Forest is second in the division with a 2-1 record while NC State is third at 1-2. Maryland, Clemson, and Boston College all were swept last weekend as they are tied for fourth place in the division.

Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Miami (FL) are in a three way tie for first place in the Coastal Division with a 3-0 record after they each swept their series on the opening weekend. Duke is in fourth place at 2-1 while UNC is fifth at 1-2. Virginia Tech rounds out the division at 0-3 after being swept by Miami (FL). Read the rest of this entry »

Big 12 Weekend Preview (3/18-3/20)

It is finally opening weekend for the Big 12 Conference. Eight of the league’s ten teams are participating in conference series, with Missouri and Nebraska playing series against non-conference foes.

The conference matchup of the weekend is between #3 Oklahoma and #12 Texas A&M in Norman. Oklahoma was the winner of 16 straight games before hitting a three-game skid against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Arizona.
