CBD Journal with Drew Fann (March 22nd)

We were pretty successful this week, finishing the week 3-1 with a victory over Purdue and two over Mississippi State. Even though we won the first two games of the series against Mississippi State, they battled back and beat us 9-8 on Sunday. For the first three games of the week, our pitching was dominant and threw shutouts in each game. Kevin Ziomek began the streak with his start against Purdue, and it continued through Sonny Gray’s start Friday and Grayson Garvin’s on Saturday. Tony Kemp and Anthony Gomez, the two hitters atop our lineup, led us offensively this week. Kemp pushed his hitting streak to five games, whereas Gomez’s streak is at 16 and counting. CBD Journal with Ray Ricker (March 22nd)

Welcome back everyone. It is great to be home in the Northeast getting ready for some cold conference baseball. The short sleeves are a distance memory of what we have been dealing with for the past week and a long time to come. Our field has not been ready for us to get on our field so we have been back to our old tricks of gym practices, BP, and our team lifts. Such is the life of Northeastern teams. CBD Journal with Western Illinois (March 22nd)

After a rough start to the season, the leathernecks have seemed to have found a little groove. We have been through some rough games, some that we should have won hands down and some that we could have taken. All season it seemed that we have been looking for someone to step up and take it upon themselves to pull our team out of this slump. This past weekend we had a number of players step to the plate and take that role. It seemed that when these players stepped up, the rest of our team followed. Our record is not a reflection of the talent that we have and I still think that we are going to surprise some teams. Read the rest of this entry »

CBD Column: St. John’s News and Notes (Video)

I took in the St. John’s vs Holy Cross matchup on Sunday afternoon in Worcester Massachusetts. The Red Storm were able to come away with a 8-2 victory over the Crusaders behind a solid start from Brendan Lobban who gave up two runs in the first inning before settling down. He ended up pitching six innings scattering six hits while giving up only those two first inning runs.  Read the rest of this entry »

Fullerton’s Dave Serrano catches up with CBD

I was able to catch up with Cal State Fullerton Head Coach Dave Serrano after the Titans snapped a four-game skid by defeating Washington 11-3. His squad was swept last weekend at LSU and dropped a midweek contest at Texas A&M. Serrano spoke with me about the importance of getting back to playing winning baseball and what lies ahead for his ballclub. I also had a chance to catch up with RHP Noe Ramirez and Michael Lorenzen for audio interviews.

2011 CBD Mid-Major Poll (March 21st)

By: Aaron Kirby
Week 5 was not kind to the teams in the top 25 as only 10 of the 25 teams had winning records this past week.

#1 Fresno St (14-2) held on to the top spot this week after sweeping 3 games from Washington St.

#2 TCU (12-7) also stays put after a 2-2 week.  After dropping a mid week game to UT-Arlington, TCU took 2 of 3 at UNLV to open MWC play. Read the rest of this entry »
