CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia pitching staff combined for its second shutout in as many nights as the Cavaliers topped Towson 5-0 Wednesday at Davenport Field. UVa improved to 21-2 this season with the win, while Towson dropped to 6-14-1.
Virginia recorded its seventh shutout of the season – fourth most in a single season in program history. UVa posted back-to-back shutouts for the third time this season, while Towson was blanked in consecutive games for the first time since April 22 and 23, 2003.
Tallahassee, Fla. – Hatters Win! Hatters Win! Wednesday night in Tallahassee the Stetson Baseball team defeated Florida State for the first time since 1998. Hatters Win!
Stetson, ranked #28 in the nation, improved to 18-4 on the season with a 6-4 extra innings victory over the #4 Seminoles of Florida State who fell to 16-5.
Four Hatters had two hits each and six pitchers combined to throw 11 innings and give Stetson the chance to pull out the biggest win of an already impressive season. Both teams finished with 12 hits in the game.
#13 North Carolina 4 High Point 0
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina rode its strong bullpen and timely hitting to a 4-0 win over visiting High Point (13-10) Wednesday evening at Boshamer Stadium. Chris Munnelly earned the win, while Colin Moran clubbed his second home run in as many days to help propel Carolina to its sixth straight victory.
Chris Munnelly made his fifth start of the year Wednesday night and delivered three scoreless innings while allowing just two base runners on a walk and a single.
Clemson, SC – Freshman Dominic Attanasio went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three runs to lead #15 Clemson to a 9-2 victory over Elon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers, who upped their winning streak to five games by winning both games of the midweek series, improved to 12-7 overall. The Phoenix dropped to 15-8 on the season.
The Phoenix took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then Clemson scored two runs in the second, two runs in the third, and three runs in the fourth to pull away. The victory was Jack Leggett’s 1,158th as a head coach, tying him with Jack Brayton for 19th place on the all-time wins list by a head coach at a Division I school.
WORCESTER, Ma. – Senior Brendan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.), in his first year ever pitching, threw one and a third shutout innings to tally his first career win, boosting the Holy Cross baseball team to a 3-2 win over Boston College at Fitton Field. With the result, the Crusaders improve to a record of 8-8-1 while the Eagles drop to an 8-10 record on the season. Fellow senior Jack Laurendeau (Sudbury, Mass.) used his speed and agility to heighten the Holy Cross offense as he scored two runs, including the go-ahead run after going two-for-three at the plate with one RBI and his ninth stolen base of the season.
Sophomore Josh Hauser (Dallas, Texas) earned his first career start from the mound and allowed two hits through the first two innings as no runs came across for either team. The Eagles went ahead 2-0 in the top of the third as starting pitcher and designated hitter Andrew Lawrence homered over the right field fence to bring two runs home.

Miami (FL) 5 Florida Gulf Coast 2
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Travis Miller saw action in his second game of the year and recorded his first win of the campaign, helping the University of Miami extend its winning streak to nine games with a 5-2 victory at home over Florida Gulf Coast University at Alex Rodriguez Park on Wednesday night.
At the beginning of the 2011 season, there was a lot of hype surrounding Miami junior Harold Martinez – and rightfully so – after leading the ACC with 21 home runs as a sophomore. Wednesday night, Martinez continued an eight-game hit streak in which he has lived up to every bit of those expectations, hitting .467 over the ‘Canes recent nine-game surge.
Martinez went 1-for-3 to drive in three runs and propel the Miami Hurricanes (14-8) in a come-from-behind win in five straight games now for UMiami.

NC State 8 Northwestern 7
RALEIGH, N.C. — Andrew Ciencin’s RBI double broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday and sparked NC State to an 8-7 victory over Northwestern in the second game of a two-game midweek non-ACC baseball series at Doak Field at Dail Park.
With the win, the Wolfpack completed a two-game sweep of the Wildcats and improved to 12-10 overall. Northwestern dropped to 5-12 with the loss
