Foley’s Quick Hits for March 12th

Here are some of my thoughts on games from March 12. If I missed something or you want to discuss it, leave a comment at the bottom of the article.

  • The biggest story of the day was the Brown Bears winning the second game of a doubleheader against the Texas Longhorns by a score of 7-3. I attended the Rhode Island College Baseball Media Luncheon in February where Brown coach Marek Drabinski joked about starting the season off with a 0-6 record as the Bears opened up at Vanderbilt last weekend. He will not have to worry about that as the win today by the Bears was the first of the season for the squad.
  • Greg Gonzalez pitched seven shutout innings allowing only two hits to help lead the Fresno State Bulldogs to a 1-0 victory over Nebraska. He showed excellent control in the game striking out 12 while not talking any batters.
  • Troy’s Daniel Peterson hit two homers in a doubleheader sweep over New Orleans as the Trojans upped their record to 12-3 on the year. If they continue at this pace, they will be able to compete with both FIU and FAU for a conference title in late May.

Hmmm…I thought the biggest story of the day was Matt Purke finally losing a game. My bad.
