2011 CBD Season Preview: Conference USA
When the 2010 baseball season ended in Conference USA, Rice had regained its traditional position atop the league standings in the regular season, but saw Southern Miss claim the postseason tournament title. FORT WORTH, Texas – A Kyle Von Tungeln home run in the seventh inning broke a 3-3 tie and helped propel the TCU Varsity baseball team to a 5-3 win over the Alumni squad Saturday afternoon. UConn’s Joe Pavone out for the Season
UConn starting catcher Joe Pavone will miss the entire 2011 season with a torn ACL he suffered last Friday sliding into a base. Last season, Pavone appeared in 39 games (36 starts) while hitting .273 with five homers and 20 RBI. Read the rest of this entry »
Big Ten Network releases 2011 Television Schedule

2011 Mountain West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Five-time defending Mountain West Conference champion TCU is the unanimous favorite to win its sixth consecutive regular season MWC baseball title in 2011, according to a vote of the seven MWC head coaches and a selected media panel. The Horned Frogs received all 16 first-place votes and 112 points overall, while BYU garnered 84 points to finish second in the poll. San Diego State collected 75 points for a third-place ranking in the poll, while New Mexico was fourth (71 points). Rounding out the poll were UNLV in fifth (45 points), Utah in sixth (43 points) and Air Force in seventh (18 points). Read the rest of this entry »
2011 SEC TV Listings

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference has announced its complete 2011 SEC Baseball television schedule, the second under the league’s landmark 15-year agreement with ESPN. The regular-season package will include 54 broadcasts in 2011, up from 46 games in 2010. In addition, all games from the 2011 SEC Tournament will continue to be televised, with the championship game airing again nationally on ESPN2. Including SEC Tournament games, a total of 68 SEC baseball broadcasts will air in 2011 as part of the official SEC package. Read the rest of this entry »

According to Aaron Fitt of Baseball America, Cal Baseball will not be reinstated. He tweeted the following:

2011 CBD Season Preview: SEC Eastern Division
The SEC won another national championship this season with South Carolina grabbing the national title by sweeping the UCLA Bruins in the CWS Championship Series. It was the conference’s second straight national title (LSU 2009) and eighth since 1990.
The SEC Eastern Division was won by the Florida Gators with a 22-8 SEC record, while finishing the season with an overall record of 47-17. The Gamecocks finished one game behind the Gators in the division going 21-9 while having an overall record of 54-16. The Vanderbilt Commodores finished in third place with a conference mark of 16-12 and a 46-20 overall record as they advanced all the way to the Super Regionals, where they were defeated by the Florida State Seminoles in three games. Kentucky (31-25 overall, 13-17 SEC), Tennessee (30-26, 12-18 SEC), and Georgia (16-37 overall, 5-23 SEC) all did not qualify for the SEC or NCAA Tournaments. Read the rest of this entry »
Charlie Sheen visits UCLA Practice
Actor Charlie Sheen who has had multiple run-ins with drugs and alcohol abuse visited UCLA baseball practice today. Coach Savage asked Sheen to speak to the team. According to junior Richard Brehault’s twitter account, Sheen told the team “Don’t do crack, drink chocolate milk, and enjoy every moment..thats all I got.”
