2011 SEC Preseason Coaches Poll

The Florida Gators are predicted to repeat as the 2011 Southeastern Conference baseball champions, as voted by the league’s 12 baseball coaches in the 20th annual preseason SEC poll.

The Gators, ranked No. 1 nationally in multiple preseason polls, seek to capture their 12th SEC Championship.  UF returns eight position starters and 11 pitchers from their 2010 squad which claimed the SEC Championship and advanced to the NCAA College World Series. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll

Oklahoma is the preseason favorite to claim the Big 12 baseball regular season championship heading into the 2011 season, in a vote of the league’s head coaches. In 2010, the Sooners made their 10th College World Series appearance and first trip to Omaha since 1995. Ohio Valley Conference to play Fridays-Sundays in 2012

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference has announced a change to the format of its Conference regular season series for baseball starting with the 2012 season.

Currently the OVC plays a three-game series spread over two days, with the teams playing a doubleheader on Saturday (with one of those games being a 7-inning game, the other a 9-inning affair) and a single 9-inning game on Sunday. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 CBD Season Preview: Pac 10

The Pac-10 sent eight teams to the regionals in 2010, while UCLA and Arizona State both advanced to the College World Series, with the Bruins losing in the championship series to South Carolina.  With the amount of teams making the postseason, as well as 20+ game winning streaks by UCLA and Arizona State to start the season, the conference established itself as the premier conference in the country, with most of its elite players returning for 2011. CBD Journal with Drew Fann (Feb. 15th)

Hey everyone, hope your week has started off well. We are only a few days from the season’s first pitch in (hopefully) sunny San Diego, California. We had three final scrimmages this weekend, and everyone is ready to finally face a different team on Friday. We play three games against the San Diego Toreros and one against the San Diego State Aztecs. CBD Journal with Ray Ricker (Feb. 15th)

Hello everyone ! Hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day with that special someone in your life. Valentine’s Day is a great day to show that special someone how much you actually care about them, but it’s also the report date for pitchers and catchers. Now this is a great day. Like every other true baseball guy, we look forward until the first pitch of the season. A couple of DII schools have started up already while Division I schools start this week. Tons of changes to the college landscape will happen this year, from the bats that some schools use to a pitch clock. I cannot say that I am in favor of a pitch clock; that has always been one of the great things about the game of baseball that you cannot sit on the clock. I understand that you need to make the college game friendlier to the TV audience, but I don’t think a clock is the best thing we can do for the game. Read the rest of this entry »

CBD Journal with Western Illinois (Feb. 15th)

We’re down to just four days until opening game for the 2011 Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck baseball team. We finally hit the road and head to Birmingham to take on Samford University of the SoCon Conference. It will be nice to trade the winter coats and twelve inches of snow for sixty degrees and sunshine in Alabama.

2011 CBD Season Preview: Freshmen to Watch

The freshman class for this season is the best in recent years with two top 15 picks deciding to spurn the MLB Draft for the next three seasons in Dylan Covey and Karsten Whitson. Covey decided to head to San Diego while Whitson ended up at Florida. They are not the only ones that decided to head to college as we have put together our 2011 Top Freshmen to Watch. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Southland Conference

2010 saw three Southland teams with a chance to make the postseason, but tournament champion Lamar was the only team in, as Texas State and Southeastern Louisiana were left to think about next year. This year, the league belongs to the Bobcats and Lions, as both teams return a wealth of talent. Texas State is led by All-American candidate P Carson Smith, the league’s top prospect. 2011 ACC Baseball Television Schedule

GREENSBORO, N.C. – A total of 44 baseball games featuring Atlantic Coast Conference teams are scheduled to be telecast during the 2011 season, Commissioner John Swofford announced on Monday.

The slate of games includes eight Saturday afternoon broadcasts of ACC games on the Regional Sports Network, a group of regionally-based outlets that will provide coverage to all areas of the league’s geographical footprint. In addition, RSN will carry all 13 games of the 2011 ACC Championship, scheduled for May 25-29 at Durham (N.C.) Bulls Athletic Park. Video of the Day: Cal Baseball Rap (Video)

A couple of Cal Baseball players got together recently to do a rap on the Cal Athletic Department cutting the program.
