TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Nothing is coming easy – or free – for Florida State’s baseball opponents four games into the 2011 season.
The Seminoles improved to 4-0 on the year Tuesday with a 5-3 victory over rival Jacksonville at Dick Howser Stadium, thanks in large part to another outstanding pitching performance. For the third time in four games, Seminole pitchers did not yield a walk, forcing the Dolphins to earn a road win.
Georgia Southern 6 # 24 Georgia Tech 5
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern won the series opener 6-5 over 21st-ranked Georgia Tech after Kevin Jacob gave up three straight walks in the bottom of the ninth, including a full-count walk to Victor Roache (Ypsilanti Mich.), scoring the game-winning run. A stadium record crowd of 3,088 witnessed the thriller at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The Eagles took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth and held it until the top of the ninth when the Yellow Jackets took a 5-4 lead. FreshmanBen Morgan (Evans, Ga.) led off the bottom of the ninth with a hit and was sent to third base after a hard hit ball by Jesse Piccolo (Flagler Beach, Fla.) was missplayed by the shortstop. Jacob recorded back-to-back outs with runners on second and third and elected to intentionally walk Eric Phillips (Carrollton, Ga.) to load the bases. Steve Cochrane(Mooresville, N.C.) and Roache walk in back-to-back plate appearances to drive in the tying and winning runs.

Virginia Tech 10 South Carolina-Upstate 0
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Behind strong pitching and a season-high 12-hit effort, Virginia Tech rolled to a 10-0 victory over the USC Upstate Spartans on Tuesday evening at Harley Park.
Andrew Rash and Chad Pinder each had three hits, while Gabe Ortiz and Chad Morgan each plated three runs with Rash adding two more RBI.
Joe Parsons (1-0) made the start for Tech and went six innings. He scattered seven hits – all singles – walked one and struck out four. Jake Atwell threw a perfect seventh with two strikeouts, Sean McDermott also struck out two in the eighth, andBrandon Fisher finished the game in the ninth and struck out one

Wake Forest 2 Western Carolina 1
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sophomore Pat Blair drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning to bring home senior Ryan Lloyd from third base and give the Wake Forest baseball team a 2-1 victory over Western Carolina on Tuesday evening at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.
The win is the Demon Deacons’ first of the season, improving their record to 1-3. The Catamounts fall to 3-1 on the year.
Junior Michael Dimock picked up the win for Wake Forest, pitching two innings of scoreless baseball and giving up just one base hit.
