UPDATE #2 AT 11:30 PM FEB. 21st

NBC 12 out of Phoenix, Arizona recently had a full report about Hahn’s condition. You can check out the full report below.

UPDATE #1 AT 2:05 AM FEB. 21st

Multiple sources have confirmed to College Baseball Daily that Cory Hahn suffered a C-5 fracture of his spinal cord. For comparison’s sake, former Boston University hockey player Travis Roy suffered a fracture between his C-4 and C-5 vertebrae. The doctors will not know the status of Hahn’s spinal cord until after the swelling goes down from the surgery he underwent on Sunday night. He is expected to spend the next five-ten days in the ICU.

Original Post

Arizona State freshman outfielder/LHP Cory Hahn suffered a head injury on Sunday. In the first inning of the second game of the day, Hahn went to steal second base sliding head first colliding with the knee of New Mexico second baseman Kyle Stiner which caused him to lay motionless behind second base. He was taken off on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he is currently. There has not been an update yet on his condition and once we hear anything, we will post an update here.

Hahn was a highly regarded recruit from Corona, California where he attended Mater Dei High School. He was selected in the 28th round by the San Diego Padres but decided to become a Sun Devil. He hit a monster homerun off of Matt Hobgood as a junior in high school which can be seen below.

Cory is a great kid! With great determination. He will cover come his injuries. Just watch!

Brian Foley February 21, 2011 - 6:16 am

I was watching the game when the injury happened and this was one of the most serious injuries I have ever seen in sports. Hopefully, he will be able to get back on the field.

At a Baseball game, you would think it happened on the Football field; in-regards to the most serious injury you have seen. Hope he overcomes the unfortunate injury that happened today/yesterday.

Dan February 21, 2011 - 6:22 am

Was at the game..he suffered a neck injury and was in surgery tonight because of spinal cord trauma. Doctors are optimistic at this point.

CELTDAD February 21, 2011 - 6:24 am

Brian, when do we expect to get an update. My son played with him at the area code games, and you find a better kid.

Brian Foley February 21, 2011 - 6:26 am

Honestly, you will not see me post anything unless I am 100 percent certain. I have some information on this that I am not exactly sure about yet and being the first one to report it, isn’t the most important thing.

CELTDAD February 21, 2011 - 6:31 am

Thanks Brian.n

CELTDAD February 21, 2011 - 6:28 am

You won’t find a better kid!

Dan February 21, 2011 - 7:54 am

Got some good news….surgery went well. Doctors are hopeful that he will regain the feeling he has lost once the swelling goes down. ICU for the next week or so, then they will know more.

I like that idea but lets wait for him to recover a little bit before we do something like that.

Barbara February 21, 2011 - 8:38 am

Hi Brian,nYou might want to make the distinction between fracturing a C5 vertebrae and whether or not there was any actual spinal cord damage. Hopefully it’s only a fracture and he hasn’t sustained any injury to the spinal cord. He will be in my prayers. Thank you for the updates.

u200e”The Cory Hahn Rule” When advancing a base NO more head first slides in all of amatuer baseball! I’ve been in the game my whole life and the head first slide is not that effective and has some serious consequences if not performed right! This would be a great way to help prevent others from getting injured and paying tribute to a great baseball player! Please pass this on the the NCAA rules committeen

Just listening to ESPN3 and they interviewed a kid from Arizona State, Cory Hahn, who was injured earlier this year. I wasn’t really paying attention until then, but I was super impressed by how polite this kid was. Nice to hear stuff like that.
