2011 Season Preview: Seniors to Watch

There are a few seniors this year that have come back for their final season of eligible. One of the top hitters in the class is Paul Hoilman from East Tennessee State who won both the 2010 T.D. Ameritrade Home Run Derby and the 2010 Cape Cod Baseball League Home Run Derby. You can check out the rest of our Top Seniors below.

Paul Hoilman (East Tennessee State)- is a 6’4 240 pound first baseman from Johnson City, Tennessee has had an outstanding career at East Tennessee State which has seen him hit 51 homers over his first three seasons. Last year, he hit .421 with 25 homers and 84 RBI on his way to several All-American honors in addition to being named the 2010 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year.

Chad Obernacker (Tennessee Tech)- is a 5’11 190 pound two way player (OF/LHP) from Erie, Pennsylvania as he attended McDowell High School. He has been solid for the Golden Eagles over the last two seasons. In 2009, he hit .354 while only striking out 23 times in 195 official at bats. Last season, he hit .452 with six homers and 70 RBI while stealing 14 bases in 18 attempts. He continued to be a tough out in the lineup as he struck out 23 times in 239 at-bats.

Mike McGee (Florida State)- is a 6’0 188 pound RHP/OF from Port St. Lucie, Florida. He enters the season as the expected starting centerfielder for the Noles after spending his first three sesons as the everyday outfielder. Last year, he hit .328 leading the team with 17 homers and 73 RBI while helping to bring them to Omaha. He also served as the team’s closer last season as he went 4-1 with 13 saves and an ERA of 2.96.

Jordan Ribera (Fresno State)- is a 6’0 220 pound power hitting first baseman from Clovis West High School and a native of Fresno, California. In 2010, Ribera had a breakout season starting every game at first base as he hit .343 while leading the entire nation with 27 homers and driving in 68 runs. He played this past summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League as he participated in 50 games hitting .273 with 10 homers and 39 RBI.

Chad Arnold (Washington State)- is a 6’4 199 pound right handed pitcher from Kennewick, Washington and graduated from Southridge High School. He returns for his senior season and was the workhorse of the Cougars staff last season. He tossed threee complete games and 108 innings in 16 starts, going 5-3 with a 3.74 ERA, but may not see time until Pac-10 play due to a chip on his elbow.

Cole Green (Texas)- is a 6’0 210 pound right handed pitcher from Coppell High School and is a native of Coppell Texas. He enters the season expected to be in the weekend rotation for the Longhorns after going 11-2 with a 2.74 ERA in 17 appearances (16 starts) in the 2010 season. As a sophomore, he went 5-3 in 21 appearances (20 starts) with a 3.34 ERA.

Mike Nemeth (UConn)- is a 6’1 210 pound first baseman from Washington, New Jersey where he attended Warrent Hills Regional High School. In his first three seasons in Storrs, he has hit over .300 in each of them hitting a career high .386 with 15 homers and 84 RBI in 2010. He played this past summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Bourne Braves as he hit .221 with 13 RBI.

Steven Maxwell (TCU)- is a 6’1 192 pound right handed pitcher from The Woodlands Texas where he attended The Woodlands High School. He enters his redshirt senior season with a 16-4 career record while having an ERA of 3.54. Last season, he had a solid season as he went 11-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 18 starts.

Steven Yarrow (San Francisco)- is a 6’3 210 pound infielder from South Lake Tahoe, California where he attended South Lake Tahoe High School. Last year, he hit .310 with a conference leading 16 homers while driving in 46 runs. He led the team in slugging percentage at .635.

Jerrud Sabourin (Indiana)- is a 6’2 210 infielder from Torrey Pines High School and San Diego California. He has had an oustanding career as a Hoosier hitting .373 with 18 homers and 134 RBI I his 174 games played. Last season, he hit .394 with seven homers and 45 RBI while playing excellent defense with a .990 fielding percentage.
