Hey CBD readers, my name is Drew Fann and I am a senior catcher on the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team. Just a little background about myself—I am a Human and Organizational Development major and Corporate Strategy minor, and am on track to graduate in May. I have lived my entire life in Tennessee, growing up in Murfreesboro and now residing in Nashville.

My goal for this blog is to give people insight on the weekly grind of the college baseball season. Managing classes, homework, practices, games, and workouts can be difficult at times, but the end result is time spent with teammates that will never be forgotten. I have loved my time as a Commodore, and I hope to be able to share some of these experiences with you throughout the year.

The first official day of practice was Friday, and after a few weeks of sleet, snow, and rain in Nashville, the weather was beautiful all weekend with highs in the mid-60s. Coach Corbin told us that he had saved all of his good deeds to have the weather so perfect for the start of practice! There’s a saying that “a team takes on the persona of its coach,” and this is very true for us. Coach Corbin arrives at the field early, leaves late, and takes advantage of every second of his day. Our assistant coaches Josh Holliday and Larry Day, along with pitching coach Derek Johnson, also have that tireless work ethic, and their attitude filters into the way we (the players) go to work.

We know that our fans and members of the media have high expectations for us this year—we have high expectations for ourselves, too—but our only goal is to be a great baseball team each day that we are on the baseball field. The only thing we can control is how we play on a certain day, and we strive to be the best that we can.

That’s all for now.

Until next time,
Drew Fann
