Top 100 Countdown: 12. Jed Bradley (Georgia Tech)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 12 in our countdown with Georgia Tech LHP Jed Bradley. He is from Huntsville, Alabama, where he attended Huntsville High School for one year. He ended up making six starts as a senior striking out 59 and posting a 1.79 ERA in 39 innings of work. Before transferring to Alabama, he picked up two letters at Eisenhower High School in Shelby Township, Michigan. In his final season at Eisenhower, he had a 0.91 ERA, tossing seven complete games. He ended up setting the school record at Eisenhower High School while being tabbed to the 2007 Detroit Free Press Top-20 in addition to being named to the all-conference and all-district teams. He discussed the Virginia baseball program, the disaster at the Metrodome that caused major trouble with college baseball schedules, the Garrett Wittels situation, and a couple of other topics. 2011 Dairy Queen Classic moved to Arizona

The Dairy Queen Classic featuring Minnesota, South Alabama, Oklahoma State, and Washington State will be moved to Tucson, Arizona according to Washington State head coach Donnie Marbut. The tournament had to be moved to Arizona after the Metrodome collapsed on December 12th after a heavy snowstorm. Read the rest of this entry »

UNC-Asheville releases 2011 Schedule

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A game at defending national champion South Carolina plus 10 games at McCormick Field highlights the 2011 UNC Asheville baseball schedule that was released today by second-year Bulldog coach Tom Smith.

The 53-game schedule features 18 home games, including eight games on Asheville’s home campus of Greenwood Field plus the 10 dates at McCormick Field. The Bulldogs will open the 2011 season at Greenwood Field when they welcome Murray State for a three-game series (Feb. 18-20). Read the rest of this entry »

CBD Interview with Steve Smith (Baylor)

College Baseball Daily continues our series of interviews with coaches from across the country today with Baylor head coach Steve Smith. He is entering his 16th season in charge of the Bears where he has a career record of 588-387-1. Last season saw Baylor go 36-24 while going 12-13 in the Big 12 Conference. They qualified for the NCAA Tournament where they went 2-2 with victories over Lamar and Arizona while losing to the Wildcats and TCU to end their season. Read the rest of this entry »

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 13 in our countdown with Louisville junior RHP Tony Zych. The Monee, Illinois, native attended St. Rita High School where he was a four year letter winner. As a senior, he hit .426 with eight home runs, 33 runs scored and 30 RBI as a second baseman while going 7-2 with a 2.63 ERA and 56 strikeouts on the mound. Read the rest of this entry »

Winston-Salem State Kicks off Practice

The Winston-Salem State baseball squad didn’t waste a minute to get in their first practice in 37 years on Monday. Sun Belt Conference Announces New Baseball Tournament Format

NEW ORLEANS – Following one of the most successful seasons in Sun Belt Conference baseball history the SBC baseball coaches decided to implement a new tournament format for the upcoming 2011 SBC Baseball Championship.

The new round-robin format, which is similar in scope to the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, will feature eight of the ten SBC teams competing against each other in two four-team pools with the team with the best record in each pool advancing to the tournament’s championship game. Pittsburgh Releases 2011 Schedule

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt baseball team, which will begin competition in its first season at the Petersen Sports Complex, has released its 2011 schedule.

“We have assembled a very competitive schedule that will be a great challenge for us,” Pitt head coach Joe Jordano said. “We have several teams that we have not played against in the past on this season’s schedule, so that will provide an additional test. Our team is working hard preparing for the season and we very much look forward to transitioning into the Petersen Sports Complex this season. It should be an exciting campaign.”

Toman and Liberty Set Their Sights On Regionals For 2011

Liberty University head baseball coach Jim Toman is planning for the spring season with one overarching goal: “catching up with Coastal.”

Liberty, who went a school record 42-19 last season, finds motivation in Big South conference mate and 2011 Super Regional participant Coastal Carolina. Keeping up with Coastal seems to be a ongoing process for every team in the conference, but Toman is convinced he enters 2011 with the neccessary pieces to do so. Read the rest of this entry »

Mark Crocco added to Air Force Coaching Staff

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Mark Crocco was named assistant coach today by Air Force baseball head coach Maj. Mike Kazlausky. Crocco comes to the Academy from Wingate University, where he was an Assistant Coach.

Crocco spent the last spent the last two seasons assistant baseball coach working with the Bulldog hitters and infielders and was the head coach of the developmental team. Crocco is a 2010 graduate of Wingate, where he was a four-year letterwinner (2005-08). Read the rest of this entry »
