Top 100 Countdown: 10. Alex Dickerson (Indiana)
College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with number 10 in our countdown with Indiana junior outfielder/first baseman Alex Dickerson. He is from Poway, California, where he attended Poway High School. As a senior, he hit .455 with 12 doubles, six triples, eight home runs, 45 RBI and 40 runs while slugging .851, with a .522 on-base percentage and perfect 7-for-7 on the basepaths. He was selected in the 48th round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals but decided to head to Indiana to continue his baseball career. Read the rest of this entry »

Two Middle Tennessee State Players facing Rape Charges
Two former Middle Tennessee State baseball players have been charged with rape by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, according to an incident report on file with the sheriff’s office. NCAA Survey delves into Practice Time
The NCAA released a study on the amount of time a student-athlete spends on their specific sport during the season. NCAA rules state that coaches can take only 20 hours a week of their players’ time, regardless of the sport. Yale Baseball Returns Gift
According to the Yale Alumni Magazine, the university has decided to return a gift of one million dollars from John Mazzuto. The school is returning the money after Mazzuto was charged with stealing over 60 million dollars from Industrial Enterprises of America. The company, which is in bankruptcy, threatened to sue the university for the money but came to this agreement. Mazzuto, who is a 1970 graduate of Yale, donation went to endowing the head coach position and naming of a practice field. Read the rest of this entry »
LSU’s Paul Mainieri to Serve as ‘Fire King’ for ALS Fundraiser
BATON ROUGE, La. — For the second straight year, LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri will serve as the “Fire King” for the Fire & Ice Gala benefiting the Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter of The ALS Association.
The gala will take place in Baton Rouge on Saturday, January 22 at Boudreaux’s on Government Street. A VIP reception will be held at 6 p.m., with the gala slated to begin at 7 p.m. Read the rest of this entry »

We continue the list today with number 11 in our countdown with Vanderbilt junior third baseman Jason Esposito. He is from Bethel, Connecticut, and attended Amity High School. He was a four year letterwinner in baseball while being named the 2008 All-State MVP, All-Area MVP, New Haven Register MVP, Connecticut Post MVP, Hartford Courant MVP, Gatorade Player of the Year, Connecticut Coca-Cola Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, 2007 Gold Glove and Louisville Slugger All-American. Houston’s David Murphy Completes Cancer Treatment

HOUSTON – University of Houston sophomore infielder David Murphy reached a pivotal milestone in his life on Friday. He completed his final treatment for acute lymphoid leukemia at Texas Children’s Hospital.
Cougar fans will know that Murphy was diagnosed in September of 2007. He has been receiving treatment ever since and is now in remission. To commemorate the end of this chapter in his life, Murphy was joined by his family and Dr. Zoann Dreyer at Texas Children’s where they presented him with a cake. Read the rest of this entry »
Texas A&M extends Rob Childress Contract through 2015

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M University officials announced Friday that Aggie baseball head coach Rob Childress has agreed to a contract extension through the 2015 season.

Cape Cod League to introduce Pitch Clock?
According to sources close to the Cape Cod Baseball League, they will likely be using the pitch clock that has been introduced in College Baseball this past summer.
