Nick McCurdy added to Marshall Coaching Staff

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University baseball head coach Jeff Waggoner recently announced the hiring of Nick McCurdy to serve as the volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming 2011 Thundering Herd season.

“I’m very excited to have someone join our staff who has competed at one of the highest levels in professional baseball,” Waggoner said. “He brings a great wealth of knowledge of the game and competed not only in the minor leagues but for Oklahoma State as well. Bryson LeBlanc joins Oregon Coaching Staff

EUGENE – Oregon head coach George Horton announced Wednesday that current camp coordinator Bryson LeBlanc has been hired as the program’s volunteer assistant coach.

2011 CBD Season Preview: MAAC

The MAAC conference in 2010 was won by Canisius in the regular season with a 19-5 conference record. Marist came in second with a 16-8 record while Rider and Manhattan tied for third place with 15-7 records. Siena and Niagara tied for fifth place with 13-11 records. Fairfield finished in seventh with a 8-16 record while St. Peter’s finished in eighth with a 6-18 record and Iona finished last with a 3-21 conference mark.

He enters the year with a career record of 58-105 while going 17-38 overall and 9-21 in Southern Conference play last season. the Terriers return one of the top prospects in the entire country with catcher Mac Doyle. Top 100 Countdown: 3. George Springer (UConn)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today at number 3 in our countdown with UConn junior centerfielder George Springer. The New Britain, Connecticut, native attended Avon Old Farms all four years of high school. He had an outstanding career being named All-New England in 2007 and 2008 while participating in the Cape Cod High School Classic in 2007. Alex Silver Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

Texas freshman third baseman Alex Silver has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and will miss the first couple months of the season according to Austin-American Statesman writer Alan Trubow. 2011 Big West Preseason Poll

Irvine, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton is the predominate favorite in the 2011 Big West Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving all nine first-place votes. The Titans have claimed at least a share of eight of the last 12 titles and a conference-best 15 overall. UC Irvine and UC Riverside found themselves knotted in second place with 65 votes apiece. Receiving 50 points to grab the fourth slot is Cal Poly while Long Beach State rounds out the top five with 47 points.

Kansas Baseball Adds Oregon’s Jay Uhlman to Coaching Staff

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Head Baseball Coach Ritch Price announced Tuesday that former Oregon assistant coach Jay Uhlman has joined the Jayhawk coaching staff to serve as an assistant coach. Uhlman will be KU’s recruiting coordinator, hitting coach and baserunning/short game coordinator as well as coaching the corner infielders and serve as the third base coach.

“We are thrilled to have Jay Uhlman join our coaching staff. Coach Uhlman has a proven track record of success in developing players to be successful not only at the Division I level, but in professional baseball as well,” Price said. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Big South Preseason Poll Released

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the fourth consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office.  In addition, the coaches voted Chanticleers’ redshirt-junior second baseman Tommy La Stella (Closter, N.J.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Anthony Meo (Cranston, R.I.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Ian Law added to Lafayette Coaching Staff

EASTON, Pa. – Former All-Patriot League selection Ian Law ’06 has joined the Lafayette baseball program’s coaching staff under head coach Joe Kinney.

Most recently, Law served as an assistant coach at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. for two seasons. Law coached with former Lafayette assistant and current Moravian head coach Paul Engelhardt. In 2010, Moravian advanced to the NCAA Tournament, the first appearance in program history, and the program’s coaching staff was named the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year after a 26-15 mark. 2011 Southland Conference Preseason Poll Released

FRISCO, Texas – Texas State is favored to win its third consecutive Southland Conference regular-season baseball championship by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Bobcats received nine first-place votes and 118 points in the coaches’ poll and eight first-place votes and 112 points in the SID poll. Texas State returns 20 letterwinners, six starters and 12 pitchers, including junior Carson Smith, the Southland’s pitcher and newcomer of the year recipient, from a Bobcat squad that won its second consecutive regular-season title. Texas State went 23-10 in conference play last spring, recording its fourth 20-win season in conference play in the last five years. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 CBD Season Preview: ACC Coastal Division

Last season, the ACC Coastal Division was won by the Virginia Cavaliers as they finished with a 23-7 conference record. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets came in second place with a 21-9 mark. The Miami Hurricanes only finished one game behind the Yellow Jackets in third place while the Virginia Tech Hokies finished with a 16-14 record. North Carolina finished in fifth spot with a 14-16 conference record while the Duke Blue Devils finished last at 8-22. Read the rest of this entry »
