Top 100 Countdown: 17. Mike McGee (Florida State)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 17 in our countdown with Florida State junior Mike McGee. He is from Port St. Lucie, FL where he attended Port St. Lucie High School. He served as a utility player in high school where he hit over .400 in three straight seasons. He was an All-State Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore and second team All-State as a Junior. Tighe Dickinson added to Arkansas State Coaching Staff

JONESBORO – Arkansas State head baseball coach Tommy Raffo announced Wednesday the hiring of Tighe Dickinson as assistant baseball coach for the Red Wolves program.

Dickinson will fill the opening left vacant by the departure of Justin Meccage, who left the program for a position with the Pittsburg Pirates organization. Read the rest of this entry »

2010 NCAA Baseball Attendance Leaders

The NCAA released their 2010 NCAA Baseball Attendance Figures which is led by four SEC schools. The LSU Tigers lead the pack with an average of 10,673 fans in 37 games. Arkansas comes in second with 7,704 fans while Ole Miss comes in third with 6,759 fans edging out fourth place South Carolina by an average of one fan. CBD Interview with Dan McDonnell (Louisville)

College Baseball Daily continues our series of interviews with coaches from across the country today with Louisville head coach Dan McDonnell. He is entering his fifth season in charge of the Cardinals program. He has led them to the NCAA Tournament in each of his first four seasons accumulating a 185-77 record while bringing them to the College World Series in 2007. Top 100 Countdown: 19. Mitchell Lambson (Arizona State)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

Coming in at number 19 on the list is Arizona State junior LHP Mitchell Lambson. The Tualatin, Oregon native attended Tualatin High School where he was a four year letter winner in baseball. As a senior, he went 8-1 with a 1.40 ERA and 92 strikeouts on his way to setting school records for career strikeouts and career pitching victories. Read the rest of this entry »

UMES releases 2011 Schedule

Eric Jaffe ruled Eligible at UCLA

We reported back in November that Cal freshman Eric Jaffe was looking into transferring to UCLA if he could get a waiver to be eligible for the 2011 season. According to Baseball America’s Aaron Fitt, he has been able to secure that waiver and will join the Bruins this spring. Jaffe decided to look into transferring to the Bruins at semester break after Cal announced it was dropping baseball at the end of the 2011 season.

Top 100 Countdown: 20. Brett Mooneyham (Stanford)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

Coming in at number 20 on our list is junior LHP Brett Mooneyham from Stanford University.  The Atwater, California, native earned four varsity letters at Buhach High School while helping his team to four straight league titles.  He was named first team All-League in his senior season of 2008, leading the team to a Division I Championship on both the mound and at the plate. He went 9-2 with a 0.97 ERA including 103 strikeouts in 58 innings and holding opponents to a .116 batting average. At the plate, he hit .379 with 5 HR and 35 RBI.  Mooneyham’s father was a 4-time first round pick, finally signing with the Angels as the 10th pick in the 1980 June Draft.  He played 9 professional seasons, seeing time in the major leagues with the Oakland A’s in 1986.
