Top 100 Countdown: 16. Ryan Wright (Louisville)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 16 in our countdown with Louisville middle infielder Ryan Wright. The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native attended Homestead High School where he won three letters. As a senior in high school, he hit .453 with 14 home runs, 14 doubles, 43 runs scored and 45 RBI. In his junior season, he hit .452 with 10 home runs, 32 runs scored and 27 RBI and as a sophomore batted .440 from the plate with five home runs, 36 runs scored and 32 RBI. He picked up several awards during his high school days including being a Two-time All-State selection, Three-time All-Conference selection, and a Two-time All-Area honoree.

As a freshman in 2009, he was used as a utility player playing in all 65 games while hitting .335 with five home runs and 66 RBI while stealing 12 bases on 16 attempts. He was named a freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger and the NCBWA.

In 2010, Wright wouldn’t have a dropoff as he hit .366 with 16 homers and 80 RBI while stealing 10 bases in 11 attempts instolen bases in 60 starts mostly at second base. He picked up several awards including being named a Second Team All-American by Baseball America, 2010 First Team All-South Region by ABCA, and 2010 First Team All-Big East.

He spent the summer of 2010 with the USA Collegiate National Team. He was the top hitter on the squad with a .361 average with 18 runs scored, two home runs and 12 RBI as he started 17 out of the 19 games played. He was named the top DH in the 2010 World University Baseball Championships in Tokyo, Japan, after hitting .458 (11-for-24) with seven RBI and one home run in six games.
