UMES releases 2011 Schedule

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – University of Maryland Eastern Shore head coach Will Gardner announced the 2011 baseball schedule on Wednesday.

The slate features 24 home games and contests against teams from seven conferences.

UMES opens the season with a three-game series at Appalachian State of the Southern Conference Feb. 18-20. The Mountaineers went 38-18-1 last season, advancing to the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament.

George Washington comes to Hawk Stadium on Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. as UMES opens its home schedule with seven games against the Colonials, Fairleigh Dickinson (Feb. 27-28) and Long Island (March 4-6).

The Hawks will head to Temple for a single game on March 9 before retuning home for a doubleheader to start the four-game home-and-home series with in-state rival Mount Saint Mary’s on March 15. UMES and MSM will complete the series April 13 in Emmitsburg, Md.

UMES will then play three at Richmond from March 18-20 and finish the five-game trip with a twinbill at Campbell, of the Atlantic Sun, on March 22 prior to beginning MEAC play at home with a weekend series with Coppin State (March 26-27).

Other non-conference games include encounters with Lehigh, Saint Peter’s Navy and Towson.

UMES returns 10 letterwinners, six starting position players and two starting pitchers from a team which was 8-43 in 2010.
